A Day after Christmas

Sadly three of us became sick again this week, possibly from lingering RS virus Kohki brought in last week.  On 24th we were planning on driving down to a restaurant where we had wedding party few years back but instead went to doctor. 25th morning, Kohki's cough and runny nose was far from subsiding and took him to his doctor only to be told to check in with otorhinolaryngologist for his ear infection. By the time I got to otorhinolaryngologist office, there were 30 or more people waiting.  I made an appointment and came home to prepare lunch.  Our turn finally came around 2 PM. After coming back from doctor, I took a short nap and Kohki took a long nap. Having a long day, I had no energy left to cook dinner, a delivery sushi on Christmas day.  Unfortunately we had to miss Christmas parties this year, hope to make it up with new year events.

Le Bistrot d'a Cote

Kohki at day care, Toru at work, myself off, a nice break and a little get away from daily chaos.
After dropping Kohki off, I went to my dermatologist to treat my skin and afterward I had an appointment with a healer in Shinjuku Gyoen, near a big park that resembles NY Central Park.
Every now and then, I meet with a light worker to have some kind of healing treatment to let go of negative energy accumulated inside me or to prompt smooth circulation of inner energy so that I am back full of energy, natural myself.  Few summers back was my first session with a light worker that used marble, this time a REIKI. I am sure all this sounds strange and phony to you, but if you believe it it works!
Anyway, I received a message "Soon you will be out of the chaos you are in and you will see the light. With your strong will and energy, pursue what you believe."
On my way back, I stepped in a small French bistro by luck and food was awesome, Le Bistrot d'a Cote near Shinjuku Gyoen.
From tomorrow, we will stay at Toru's parents house for Christmas and will be back next week.
Merry Christmas to you!!

もうすぐ・・・ - in the air

This week, Kohki was down with RS virus, only few weeks after getting over rota virus.  First winter at day care is an endless fight with new virus so I heard, but this time a bad cough, runny nose that runs like river, lingering mild fever which finally rose to 38 on 3rd day.  Runny nose is bad becuase it often causes ear infection (otitis media) and this is what happened to Kohki along with Bronchitis like symptom. For two days I could not put him down even for few minutes, he had to be held all the time. I ended up taking 2 and half days off work and looking after him 24-7 which left me tired and stressed out.
As much as I love my son, I realize mother needs a break too, so I took an hour for myself at a cafe this morning to have a cup of coffee, croissant and read a book with my favorite music.
Several gifts arrived for us this week.  Kohki is very happy receiving 2 buses, his favorite vehicle along with train.
Christmas is surely in the air and next Saturday we will have a Christmas party at Toru's parents house, this will make up for the party with my families and relatives which we could not join because of Kohki's sickness today. Happy Holidays!

会社から渡された性格判断テストで私の性格Top1はPositivity(ポジティブさ)。

My boss gave me a book called Strength Finder 2.0, a NY Times best seller.  My top 1 quality was Positivity, always looking on bright side of things and futurist, likeable. I need to watch myself because I attract the opposite, the negatives, which can bring me down.
In my life I had more than few incidents where people with negative energy strongly want to be close with me and that I obliviously let them in and emotionally swung around. Dunno what it is, but I need to watch myself more closely.
I feel it is about time I started looking out for new job opportunity...

BTW, Happy Holiday!

Complaint

I went to nearby post office to mail out a gift for my friends Charlotte and Alex's baby boy who's just born few weeks ago.
Unfortunately, a service personnel there left me bad taste in my mouth even after I got home and I had to but make a complaint call (trust me, I've never done this before). Not that I think this will really change the person's attitude but I felt I had to make a point.

Though, I admit it does not make me feel 100% good about this, I realize again that I am not a perfect human being who can hold in anything and still be zen and stress free. Just like a popular Japanese writer Osamu Dazai puts it, "You need to stand up for yourself sometimes, otherwise what's the point of being a human?".
I hope I make someone's day rather than ruining it, something to keep in mind.
Peace.

rota virus

A humidifier in our bedroom.

Kohki has been sick from last Friday, took him to a doctor several times. Nausea, diarrhea, he is finally recovering from it. Doctor told us it might be rota virus which is similar to norovirus but weaker.  He was only on liquid on Wednesday and he started eating porridge, mashed pumpkin, tofu etc. from yesterday.
Ever since he started day care, he catches all sorts of virus and gets sick from it time to time, and we understand that until age 3 or so, his immune system is in progress of building and thus cannot but get sick.

Nice thing about living in Tokyo is that welfare system is abundant.  With Kohki, we pay almost nothing to go see a doctor and priscribed medicine.  This goes on until he graduates from junior high school (age 15).  Also, emergency room is provided by Tokyo after hospitals business hours. We don't know how many times we relied on this service.

Though we often blame our busy, stressful life on city of Tokyo, I realize at times like this it is very helpful.

記念日 - anniversay

at Tony Roma's Roppongi

Sunday was our marriage anniversary (wedding in May) and we went out for an American dinner at Tony Roma's in Roppongi.  Being a Halloween day as well, the restaurant was full of decorations and staff in costumes.  A rack of rib steak and a huge onion ring with a dip sauce accompanied with draft beers, an American dinner we have been forgetting about lately.  We sure enjoyed it incl. Kohki who reached for his own piece of back rib and chewed on it forever.  A nice and fun weekend for all of us.

lunch update

I just came back to the office only to find it emtpy.  Everyone has gone to lunch I suppose. My lunch was dim sum. Since I left early, before everyone heads out, nice and quiet time.
Kohki hates brushing teeth and washin hair, that is his mom or dad does.  Last night he fought as usual and I ended up showering on his face a little.  He cried a little. I told him quietly in a bath tub that it is about time he started getting used to it. He pointed a finger at me and said, "#$%&!!!!!" which sounded like he was making a point about my mistakenly showering his face. Then I told him I apologize about showering his face but he still needs to get used to washing his hair because otherwise it is unhealthy. He nodded with a solemn face.
He sometimes uses potty and he lets me know when he's done poo poo.  He is growing into a child now.
Lunch time over, back to work now!

Baby food in Japan

Yesterday Kohki's friend, here mom and her grandma came to pick us up as Kohki finishes his day care.  We drove to nearby baby store and did some shopping.  It has become sort of a thing we do once a month and after shopping we all go to a family type restaurant (Denny's is one of them, there are several franchise restaurants) have dinner together.  Much fun:-)
Every time I go to the shop, it amazes me how much variety we have of baby food here in Japan.  When Kohki was still on "baby food", I always had different kinds of freshly pouched baby food as storage and not only did they taste good but varied in kinds (Chinese, Japanese, Italian, etc., there is even a lunch box starting from 7-8 month olds).  You can buy them in bottles, plastic bags and plastic containers.
Now that Kohki is over baby food and eats 90% the same food as we adults eat, I don't buy them any more, but yesterday I came across this small packaged Okonomiyaki sauce (similar to Worcestershire sauce) with "Okonomi Sauce for 1 Year Old" and it cracked me up.  It is looking exactly like what we adults use but in a small bottle, this is very Japanese.  Since I cook Okonomiyaki (non sweet pancake with shredded veges, meat or seafood, eaten with sauce, mayo, bonito flakes etc.) often for Kohki, I bought it.  It's got less sodium than regular one I suppose.
Now I realize there are so many of this "xxxx for 1 Year Old" products, quite interesting.

Today we are headed down to my parents house.  Hope to catch some surfs.... or not?

Autumn

Rain and sun has been swithing its turn past few weeks.  Today was nice sunny day and we took a walk to nearby shopping mall, TOC in Gotanda.  New UNIQLO store has just opened and there was a long line to get in.  They have stores in NY, London, Paris etc. now and they are making tons of money, a Japanese version of fast fashion, but better quality.
On Friday, I went out with my bosses and co-workers to Aoyama, one of expensive areas in Tokyo, to wine and lunchee to celebrate company's successful quarter (they made profit 2.5 times as much as last quarter).  From a Japanese point of view, the restaurant was very cheesy, very expat-ty, expensive for what it is type of place, but I guess it is viewed different if you non Japanese.
Hopefully the company will continue doing well and that I get a pay raise next quarter.
Yearning to go surfing... hopefully one more time before wind and water gets cold.

Vacation plans...dreaming

A nice cool rainy day today.  Woke up, took Kohki to a new building they just put up on top of our nearby station, came back had lunch, took a nap, cooked chestnuts from my sister, prepared potstickers for dinner, etc.  Just glad to be over with lingering scorching hot weather finally.

Kohki's friend and her family are planning a trip to Oahu this November.  This ringed our bell.  Hawai'i, our favorite desitnation for vacation.  It would be so nice to bring Kohki to meet Kaneshiros, our good friends, in Hawai'i.  We did our calculation but it seems it's not going to happen anytime beofore January 2011.  Some big bills coming in this month plus Kohki's preschool.  We wish we could go with them because they are such good friends and that it is just helpful to have extra helping hands (Kohki's friend's grandma and cousing and her family are also coming) especially on air plane.  Well, we just catch them next time I guess.

Times like this I realize saving is important, which is very hard to come by.... Life in Tokyo is expensive.

秋到来 - fall is in

After two typhoons, Tokyo is seeing fall kick in.  Easier for a passed-mid-thirty myself. This summer was especially hot that I realize extreme hotness of Tokyo summer is becoming harder and harder to survive as I age.

Kohki is finally recovering from a bad lingering cold.  He still has bad cough and runny nose but minor.  Toru has bad cough as well.  Summer cold is hard to kick off.

Kohki is starting to act up lately.  If we do something he doesn't like, he cries or he makes a fuss.  He does this in public as well which make us very tired (mentally, physically).  I read a baby book and it tells me around this age, a baby is growing into a child and he/she starts to build his/her own sense of being thus can be troublesome or hard to handle.

Indeed, parenting is the most endearing life project but at the same time requires much patience and wisdom.

Obon

Tokyo is experiencing scorching hot weather without any break from it this summer.  As much as I love summer, I am starting to long for a cool autumn breeze, but I am sure that as soon as we have it, we'll miss this hot weather.

Obon, summer vacation season in Japan when we welcome spirit of deceased to come home and spend few days with us, is over and the city is getting its act together once again, getting busy.

During obon, we took a day trip to Kamakura to see my grandma (Kohki's great grandma) and to go to beach down there.  With typhoon #4 passing us by in Japan sea side, wind and swell was strong, so no surfing, but Kohki had some fun with real surf.  Back at Toru's parents', Kohki had fun with a small pool in a garden with his cousin Luca.  At night we all went out for a nice Korean BBQ.   A typical obon vacation.

Kohki is doing much better at his day care this week.  He was dancing hard with his friends when I went to pick him up today.  He didn't cry at the sight of me which he was doing until last week.  He smiled and kept dancing, a good sign, he is getting adjusted.

Good work, Kohki!

Fast Fashion

Lately fast fashion stores have been opening here and there in Tokyo.  It is amazing how Tokyo has almost anything from all over the world.  Today I went to Shinjuku to shop for working attires.  Shinjuk has Benetton (not fast fashion but my regular, always check), Forever 21 (LA),  H&M (Sweden), Zara (Spain) and I was surprised to find Forever 21 very cheap though if you look really close there aren't that many you'd actually go as far to pay for.
I was able to come away with 2 blouses, one pair of black pants (a must have), a black skirt (also a must have), one pair of leggins, a dress, a T-shirt and a pair of pants for Kohki, all under my 20000 yen (about 180 US$) budget, few thousand yen left, well done.

Kohki finished his first week at a day care and he seems to be doing well.  A teacher told me that he cries a little when Toru drops him off but shortly after he soon switches to playing mode and he plays with other kids, eat luch at a table, takes a nap.

We will play with Kohki a lot over the weekend.

California Roll

Kohki had his first California roll today.  I made him mini mini rolls and he enjoyed them.  Ever since we weaned him, he started eating more and more and now he eats a lot.  Next step for him is to learn to use forks and spoons and finally a pair of chopstick.

This week I was down with a high fever and severe thore throat which is still killing me.  Last three days I have only been able to eat fluid.  I feel so pity for Kohki who had the same symptom last weekend.  Poor Kohki he couldn't talk or eat and he kept drooling.

Kohki will start his day care from tomorrow.  We decided on a small day care about 10 minutes away from our house, no the best in our neighbor but they have good people and we trust them.  We still have our name on the waiting list for the best ones but who knows when they will have an opening.
I think Kohki will enjoy the day care because recently he enjoys more and more to play with other kids.  Only concern is before and after a nap but I plan to make up for it at night and weekends.

I think it is important that we give our new life style a try and at the end of the day if everything seems to fall apart and nothing weems to work for us, then we call it a quit.

I am excited to get back to work and that's important.

3連休 - down with cold

On Friday, I took Kohki to a pool by Meguro River and in the late afternoon he came down with fever.  I led him have a hot milk and sleep but yesterday morning he still had fever, so  I took him to a doctor.  He was diagnosed "typical cold" and was given a bottle of syrup medicine.
It must have been the pool which was full of kids and germs, I know it is inevitable.
Today his fever is down and he is doing much better.   I cooked him a cup of pudding.  I messed up twice with a microwave and changed to a fying pan and it turned out well.  Kohki enjoyed it this morning.
I am just glad he got better.

Kohki's debut at a pre school

「Look, a baby, hello baby!」

Today Kohki spent from 9 am to 2 pm at an international pre school that is in a neighborhood.  An American guy from Pittsburgh runs the school with emphasis on performing arts and crafts, the school's got its own unique education system seperate from regular Japanese pre schools.
Surprisingly he didn't cry at all, when I saw him off, he was busy finding his favorite toys and when I picked him up, he was in a teacher's arm saying goodbye to older kids with whom Kohki loves to play with.  A teacher told me that Kohki was happy all the time and ate all of his lunch box.
I realize he has grown so much in past several months.  Last time I had him in a day care he cried seeing me leave and at the sight of me coming to pick him up and that was just a few months ago.  Or, the atmosphere that pre school carries and all the older kids who love to take care of younger children made Kohki relax and enjoy being there.

I am getting back to work from next month, first on part time basis, and I need to again look for a day care for Kohki.

初カット - the first hair cut

I gave Kohki his first hair cut today.  It was difficult since Kohki moves around so much, so I cut a little then led him play and again I cut a little, and I repeated this few times and now he has shorter bang and back hair.
Past few weeks I have not been feeling that well wtih sore throat, runny nose, and finally I had fever last night.   Since I went thru same phase end of last year, I didn't go see a doctor.  I know what he is going to tell me, "you're just very tired, rest well" and I know that this is not possible having a one year old.
There is a restaurant near my house which is sort of like Chucky Cheese in US where there's a playground for kids to play (much smaller compared to Chucky Cheese) and there's a care taker while parents eat.  Since Kohki needs to play and play and play otherwise he is up until midnight, I have been going to this place alot lately.  Yesterday I went with Lea and her mom from 5:30PM (Kohki played in a nearby park in the morning and then took a long nap) and played for couple of hours but he was up until 11 PM, scary.

Tokyo has been seeing many kids amusement places being built past several years and while this is helpful for many parents, it can run pretty costly if you don't watch your spending.

Tokyo is now in rain season.  As much as I enjoy living in this country, rain season by itself is enough for me to reconsider relocating to another country.  Just a gloomy season with not much sun out.
Expecting next whole week in rain, I took Kohki to a nearby park to play.  He enjoys running outside and mingling with other kids.  Too bad it will be out and I need to come up with a solution to replace that.

My sister is going to send me a box full of fresh tomatoes this weekend.  Again, if you live around Tokyo and want fresh tomatoes, email me.

Good night!

Fresh Vegetables from Chiba

My sister, brother in law and my niece came down to Tokyo with fresh vegetables grown in Chiba today.  I had a tomato tonight and how good it tasted!  Very different from ones bought off grocery stores, they taste like nothing compared to the one I had tonight.

My sister, brother in law and niece moved to Chiba few years ago.  My brother in law went to an agriculture school for a year and became a farmer.  He found a land and started growing a kind of root vegetable, lotus, which we Japanese eat.  Now it is growing, he comes down to sell veges other farmers grow time to time.

My sister told me she helps out her husband with farming and that she has become stronger which is a good thing because she can be weak sometimes.

If you live in Tokyo or around Tokyo and are interested in those vegetables, let me know.

Ryotaro

Today Kohki and I took trains to go see Ryotaro who is 2 months younger than Kohki and his mother Ikuyo in Toyosu. It was good to see them since they now live in west part of Japan (Hyogo) and I don't get to see them that often. Toyosu is an urban seaside man-made town and it's got several office buildings, condominiums (high rise), and a big shopping mall. As the town is still new, they are constantly building new buildings.

Ryotaro is 2 months younger than Kohki but he is few centimeters taller.  He is very quiet and can play by himself where Kohki is rascal and is running around all the time needing my attention.  It is really amazing how each baby is different.

Common thing is that all babies are beautiful and adorable.

I cooked pot stickers for Kohki tonight, my favorite dish and for Kohki's first time today.  Because pot stickers are crispy on bottom and moist on top, I suspected Kohki might spit after chewing on a crispy side for a while, but to my surprise he ate all pot stickers without any problem.  He seemed to love them.
Though he now only weighs 8.9kg (72.1cm tall) he eats a lot.  He really enjoys any kind of food and it has become fun to cook him meals.  He is starting to eat more and more regular food like us parents and this has made my life alot easier.  He no longer drinks formula milk but drinks regular cow milk, 200 ml each day.
He holds his own fork and spoon at meals though he can't use them that well yet, time to time he picks up a piece of food like carrot or banana with his fork.  He can hold and drink from his own mug.
He babbles alot now and lately he points his index finger at things all the time and says "ah" and "koh".  Sometimes he suddenly spits out clear words like "Rappa" (trumpet in Japanese, from his book) and "okka " (short version of mom in Japanese, I suppose)" and surprise me.  He also learned to do peek-a-boo with curtain, he actually say "e-nai e-nai bah" (peek-a-boo in Japanese) when he does it.
He walks and runs all day and he is learning to climb on everything.  He doesn't care for TV but just walking and running, he walks around the house all day if it rains.
All these things tell me that he has grown so big and mature.  Soon he will be riding his new bike!

Past few weeks I have been continuously working on a translation project for writing up a synopsis for a book called "Mind in the Making" which is about child development.  The book itself is a great book and I enjoyed reading since it hits right my spot.  Reading and understanding in English is one thing where translating it into Japanese that make sense is quite another though I think I am not too bad at it.  Plus, being time starved with 1 year old running around, it was mentally presurring as well.  On weekdays, I'd do some work when Kohki takes a nap and after he goes to sleep (of course there's house chores too) and on weekends, I'd take Kohki and stay over Toru's parents and have their help looking after Kohki and snatch few hours in a block to concentrate and do more work.
Since this was my first shot with the translation career, I don't know if my freelance translation work is gonna take off but if it does, all stakes need to be considered.
For now I will take a break from everything and just relax and enjoy the time-pressure-free time with Kohki at park and take a nap with him in the afternoon.
Not to forget, gratitude goes out for Toru and his parents for all their support.

良い季節 - good season in Tokyo

May is one of my favorite months here in Tokyo, less rain (Japan has rain all thru year) , less humidity, much sun, a beautiful season.  Lately, I take Kohki to nearby park in the morning and he plays for a couple of hours and come back and have lunch, then a nap, 2.5 hours if lucky.  This has become schedule for both of us and I love it.  He loves playing in a park with other kids, walking with me.  I wish there were no rain season in Japan.  With rain, we are forced to stay inside and is no fun.  I soon need to start thinking about fun things to do when it rains.
Tonight's picture is with Lea, Kohki's buddy (she's a girl but she's pretty rascal too) who was born just few minutes before Kohki in a next room. They have been together since the birth (well, almost), pretty cool.

Brithday and Celebration

Golden Week vacation in Japan is now over.  We had so much fun during the break.
May 1st was Kohki's one year old birthday.  We celebrated his brithday along with his first osekku, boy's celebration.  Next day we took him to Kodomono Kuni where he ran around bare foot on grass and palyed with animals.  Yesterday was Children's Day and so we ate kashiwa-mochi and at night gave Kohki a shobu yu bath (reference:http://japanese-culture.info/keyword/NationalHolidays/kodomo.html).
Such a good holiday.

First surfing of the season, had good time, small surf but no wind and nice weather, a perfect stoke moment.  I realized I needed this for sometime.  Wishing that I lived by the beach and could surf more often.  Dreaming about the day I surf with Kohki.  Cheers!

Message

Break free from your inner conflict.  Stay with your inner peace.
Do not use your energy and will for confusion in outer world, just focus on the higher up.

This is a message I received today.  Very clear and to the point.  This cleared out my head and I see clearly now.  I can finally let myself free from a big cloud which have been lingering inside me.

Rain in Tokyo finally stopped and late spring is here.  I am to enjoy this beautiful season.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I turned 36 last Friday.  Almost 40, in Japan, they label you "around 40".  If you are 26 and over, then they label you "around 30", especially for women.  Anyhow Japanese like to label things.

On Sunday, I went to see a play at a small theater.  It was pretty good for 3000 yen.  On my way back, I stopped by at Shibuya and did shopping, good wine, good cheese, delicious bread and so forth which I have been staying away from for months.
Once in a while it is good to go out and buy good food and good wine to enjoy.

Coming Saturday Kohki will turn 1!  We invited both parents to celebrate with us.

Le Creuset

Today was a hot summer day in Tokyo and I had lunch with my friend in Ebisu, at my favorite Hawai'ian  restaurant.  I had a bottle of Heineken with a bowl of poke, a marvellous combination.  She told me about her new job starting next week and it reminded me of how it is to be working out there, but I can take it easy now.

Toru's mother gave me a green Les Creuset for my birthday.  This kitchenware has gained its popularity past few years and many receipe books have been published for it here in Japan.  I ddin't dare touch it for its price (expensive) but I am so happy with it now.  I cooked coq au vin (with white wine) the other day and it turned out so much better than last time I cooked with a regular pot.

徐々に - it takes time

A woman in our building was in an elevator with me and Kohki in a sling today and asked me,
"So, is he in a day care now?"
and I wondered did I ever tell her about any of it?  Probably not but she must have heard from someone, maybe a building manager or something.
I told her, "nope, I didn't find a job at the right timing, so we didn't put him in a day care."
She replied, "oh, but that's probably best for him, no?".
I hear this alot from women who work and have thier kids in a day care.  I always wonder what they feel when they say that because I am not in their shoe so I can't imagine.
To me hearing this sort of makes me feel like I lost a battle for some reason.

Then I asked myself, why do I feel like I lost a battle?  A battle of what?  I realize I didn't lose against anything but I feel I missed the other opportunity I might have acquired if I pursued my career.

I made a decision to stay with Kohki until he is older and this was surely my own decision.  Noone pressured this on me, but I realize I cannot brush off the other possibility I might have had right away.   It just takes time to fully understand the meaning of my decision and fully live it.

Today's video is Kohki walking at a park nearby.  He is getting better at walking with his shoes on.

I called the day care service this morning to cancel our contract.   So, I finally made my decision not to put Kohki in day care.  After meeting and talking with people related to job opportunity, I realized I am just not fully ready to leave Kohki in someone else's care.
He is growing so rapidly and I just can't imagine missing all the things he learns to do.

Maybe he is bit older, I'll reconsider my career, but for the time being, I will enjoy seeing him grow right before my eyes.

Tonight he did his first bye-bye in a bath.  I waved my hand to bath toys and said "bye bye till tomorrow" and he mimiced my gesture.  It was pretty impressive.

Tonight Kohki had ground beef steak.  He enjoyed it his mini-mini steak along with carrots, tofu soup and rice.  Now his rice is no longer porrige but rather well cooked version of what we parents eat.  He started expressing what he likes and what he doesn't in food.  He loves bananas but no so much strawberries especially when they are bit sour and hard.  He likes chicken rather than pork or beef.  He is getting better at using forks and a cup as well.
He walks around the house more and now with toys, books, pet bottles etc.  He gets upset when we take away things from him (like cell phone and remote controls).
I realize he will be one in a month and few weeks and he is learning so much everyday and that I am very fortunate to be with him all the time to experience this.

Strong wind is blowing in Tokyo tonight.  After this spring storm, a beautiful clean blue sky should show.  A break through.  Soon to come.

Today's picture is from few decades ago, with my two elder sisters and cousins taking pose for cousins' 7-5-3 year old celebration (girls celebrate 3 and 7 years old, boys celebrate 5 years old).

Spring has come!! It was a warm and windy day today and after each strong wind spring nears in Japan.  Soon cherry blossom flowers shall bloom and we'll see people throwing parties under the trees at night.

This perfectly Japanese spring weather has lightened up my feeling and now I feel more relaxed about my possible career ahead and concerns involved with it.  I just do my best at each stage and rest shall follow along.  I am not to decide but fate shall come to me.  I will just wait for it.

Kohki is asleep and I am to watch MIYAZAKI's anime movie "ponyo" tonight.  Good night.

(Picture is my 2 and half year old niece.  She calls me Yuko-chan instead of auntie.  Very cute.)

After looking at several non certified nursery schools (I just couldn't give up on my career), we decided unless Kohki gets into one of ku's or ku's certified schools, I will stay with him until he is old enough to start the kindergarten.  This week one of ku's certified schools called and said they had a cancellation and that Kohki can start from April.  Tuition is not as expensive as non certified ones but still on high end and unless I make certain amount of salary, it will be almost like I work to pay for his school.

I started sending out resumes few weeks ago and I still haven't heard much from anyone.
I am slowly starting to see the social bias for woman in late 30s with a kid seeking for a job in Japan.  They don't say, but I feel it, sort of.

For some reason, part of me believes it is my right to go out and pursue my career just like my husband does but the other part of me feels sorry for my husband and my baby for my decision.  And all these things in my current life such as house chores, raising a child, my possible future career, my dream, child's education and well being, etc. creates a huge dilemma in myself and I feel like I am about to collapse.

Only if this society was more understanding about.... no, I won't say.  Only if should be kept in my mind.  Just work towards my dream and if it doesn't happen, another fate should come to me.

Ommmmmmmmm.

Weaning

From this week we started feeding him follow-up formula milk and he quickly adjusted to non-breast feeding environment.  This all came naturally. Kohki gradually started showing less interest in breast feeding and he started eating more regular food and drink water or non-caffeine tea. I didn't have to make him give up.

Though I heard many moms express saddness when they weaned their babies, I didn't expect myself to feel the same for some reason. But I do now.  Feel of loss, in a way.  I feel like my motherhood has marked a big milestone here and this made me realize that Kohki is really growing rapidly.  He is not a baby forever.

I look back and wonder why I didn't take it slow at so many stages and wished Kohki'd grow out of baby phase soon (esp. when he was only few weeks old and kept me up all the time, or when he woke up so many times a night at night cry phase) .  Had I known he'd wean so quickly, I would have taken it easier... well, I am saying this because things have moved on from then and now I am looking back, I know that.

Kohki, don't grow up too quickly, mommy and daddy love you, take it slow.
