仕事納め、last day of biz 2016

昨日で仕事納め。
今年も1年おつかれさまでした！
今日含め7日間のお休み、嬉しいばかり*:)

昨日は社長がオフィスに来ていた私とコンサルの人二人をランチに連れて行ってくれて、叙々苑の焼肉をご馳走になった。お肉は私はサシが強すぎて半分しか食べられず、お隣の男性コンサルタントにあげてしまった。自分で自分に驚いた、肉好きの私が、、お腹も歳を重ねているのだなぁ、、
タンが特に美味しかった。
今の私にはタンだけでもよかったのかも。

年の最後に相応しいゴージャスランチでした！

旦那が社内ジャンケンで旅行券をゲットして帰ってきてにわかに来年のハワイ行きが現実化。下の子が2歳になる前にいけば航空運賃がかからないので、行きたいねという話はなんとなく前から上がっていた。

前回国外に出たのは、上の子が2歳になるギリギリの2011年春だったから、6年ぶりか。
それまでは年一ペースで現地の友達の家に泊めてもらって行っていたが、さすがに今回は上の子も大きくなったし、下の子も増えたので、友人宅に泊めてもらうのは遠慮してツアーで行こうかな、と思い昨夜遅く旦那が夏休み前あたりを探していた。この時期行く家族連れは結構多い気がする。終業式とその前何日かお休みしていくパターン。

昔、子供が産まれる前、好きに飲み食いし、毎土日波乗りに出かけ、年一でハワイやスノボに行ってた頃が懐かしい。当時、貯金しなさいと言われたが、あの時好きにやっておいて良かったなぁと今になれば思う。子供二人抱えるとそうもいかないからね。

いけるかなーハワイ。
いきたいなー

今日は私は子供二人を旦那に任せ、近所に住む地元が同じ友達の家に美味しいケーキを持って遊びに行ってきまーす！

Yesterday was the last business day this year for most companies in Japan.
Job well done for 2016!!

Good work to myself and everyone, every parent! Being a mom/dad is a work by itself and jaggling with house work and work outside the house is a massive life task. We should all be proud of ourselves!

President of the company I work for took me and 2 consultants out for lunch and treated us with nice Korean BBQ at a restaurant with magnificent view of Tokyo overlooking Mt. Fuji. It was such.good luck to see snowy Fuji on our last day of work. Too bad we couldn't toast with champagne.

Toru came home with a travel coupon from JTB, a travel agency, which he won by doing rock-scissors-paper with his colleagues. This was the best gift amongst several others given from his employer.

This pushed our plan of going to Hawai`i next year closer to us. With Hiroto turning 2 next fall, we were discussing about it . We could not quite decide California or Hawai'i since we have not visited California ever since we came bk but Toru was already checking flights to Hawai'i in next July right before summer break, so probably Hawai'i.

Last time we visited Hawai'i was when Koki was still 1, to be exact he turned 2 while he was there, so almost 6 years ago. Up until then Toru and I used to visit every summer and stayed at our friends housr, but since Koki is bigger plus Hiroto, we probably stay at a hotel, so he was checking a packaged travel.

Today, Toru is taking Hiroto and Koki to an electronics shop to buy a T-Fal electric kettle which broke a few months ago. Koki is taking his stack of good Dragonball card which he got for Christmas so he can play a game at the  shop. He is so into this Dragonball anime and he carries the cards all the time to share and trade with his friends.

I am going to my friend's house for coffee in the afternoon to chat, with some good sweets from a local patisserie shop. She is a really good friend of mine whom I have known since my late 20s. We cone from same hometown, we both used to live in California, happen to live closeby here in Tokyo. She is a mom as well and we happen to work in a same area too.

Lunch break but work...

昨日もう一日家族揃ってお休みしたものの、私も旦那も仕事を一部しなくてはいけなくて、息子たちがわさわさする中、てんやわんやで順番になんとかやらなければいけないことだけやった感じ。

そんな中、上の子は早々と冬休みの宿題を終わらせていた。

今日から通常モードなので、朝は自分と学童の上のこにお弁当を作り、保育園と学童にそれぞれ息子たちは出かけていき、親は出勤。雨なので久々の電車通勤。

お昼休みで出払ったオフィスで一人のんびりお弁当タイム、と行きたいところだが、明日はもう仕事納めと時間がないから半分仕事しながらお弁当。

悔しいからブログだけはアップしてやるっ！

それにしても、今年は休暇が短い。
旦那も私も4日までお休みにした。

そう、今年は珍しく首尾よく年賀状元旦到着手配しました！

We are back to a regular mode from today. I made lunch box for myself and Koki who went to a gakudo instead of school, he started his winter break alreafy and so school is,out.

Toru took Hiroto to his daycare this morning because he had 10am dentist appointment.

Because of rain, no bicycle this morning for me, took a train to the office.

Because the winter break is short this year starting this,Thursday till next Wed, we are staying local. We will just visit our families on the 1st and 2nd of January for the new,year gatherings (in Japan first 3 days of new year is called sanga-nichi, and is more of a big deal than new year eve).

I mailed out my new year cards on Christmas day so the remaining on my list this year is clean up the house and buy/hang a new year ornament on the entrance door (to welcome luck in for 2017).

クリスマス、どころじゃない、noro Christmas

ノロ前、近くの公園で。Before noro, at a nearby park

火曜夜中に下の子がノロウイルスでダウンしてから、私→旦那→上の子、という順にうつり、もう、クリスマスどころじゃなくなった。

上の子が保育園に行っていた頃は2年連続でノロにやられた経験から覚悟はしていたが、何回やってもノロは本当にキツイ。

そんなで使い捨てゴム手、マスク、キッチンハイター、ペーパー、ゴミ袋、ポカリスエットが手放せない数日だった。

毎回私が一番症状が軽いので他の人員がダウンした後は、掃除の他に、きていた服の熱湯処理や洗濯、洗濯槽の除菌、都度体調に合わせた食事の準備、などに追われ、自分も本調子ではないからほんっとーに消耗する。

で、クリスマス当日の今日、最初のノロ罹患から6日目、疲れとストレスがMAX。
このままだと、ノロ初罹患した5年前の年末のように爆発しそうなので、買い物にでたついでに駅前で久々のコーヒー(ラテ)休憩することにした。

この後久々のカフェインで、胃が痛くならないことを祈るばかり。

みなさんはローストチキンやらクリスマスケーキ食べましたか？
気持ちは食べたいのに体がまだついていけず、今夜は炊き込みご飯にお豆腐とネギのお味噌汁です。

明日からはまた仕事。
このままお休みはいりたかったけど、あと2日がんばるとします！

Today is Christmas day, but no Christmas dinner for us*x* as one by one we all got sick from noro virus this week. Noro virus is spreading so fast in Japan this year, faster than ever. Our (humans`) immune system does not gain immunity against noro virus and no antibiotics work against it either, so we get infectesd and if worst become really sick from it every time, like us.

Toru  Koki and I had same experiences a couple times in the past when Koki was still in a nursery school, both around the same time of the year, forcing us to cancel our attendance to Christmas parties, same again this year.

This year it started out with Hiroto, then me, Toru and Koki was the last one.

I slept with medical rubber gloves and a facial medical mask on, with a bottle of chlorine bleach, paper towel, garbage bags set aside the bed.

I had to run around to clean, make boiling water to disinfect clothes before putting them in a washer, prepare suitable meals, disinfect tge washer once a day so it does not infect the virus in case there was remaining virus even aftet pouring the boiling water on clothings.

Today is Christmas day and it is 6th day from the first one got sick, Im so worn out, so decided to sit here at a local cafe and take a break from for an hour or so before going upstairs to do a grocery shopping for tonights dinner...

I hope this first bit of caffeine since a week ago does not hurt my still recovering stomach.

ネスプレッソ復活
Nespresso, rejuvenated!

今日は夕方やっと年賀状をネットで注文。
これであとは大掃除だけだ！


今の会社に入って３週目。
金曜の昨日は朝から誰も現れず、１日のーんびりとマイペースに
仕事。かなり快適♩

入社初日から気になっていた埃をかぶったネスプレッソマシン。
社員のみなさんはスタバでわざわざ買って来ているようで、
ネスプレッソ復活させたら飲むのじゃないかなと、
あと来客に出すのにいいんじゃないかな、
と思い、 社長に相談したら注文してくれたようで週明けに届いた。
一緒に頼んだ専用洗浄剤も届いたので、早速中を掃除し、
コーヒーカプセルを専用スタンドに入れて設置。
５種類のカプセルの中から、キャラメリートというエスプレッソ
のフレーバーコーヒーを煎れてみたら美味しかった。
あとは暖かいフォームミルクを作れるミルクフォーマー、
↓これが欲しい。こりゃさすがに会社の経費じゃ無理かな．．

さて、来週で学校は冬休み。
木曜夜は上の子の友達３人が泊まりに来て、２４日は旦那の実家で
クリスマス。 再来週は仕事納めでもう年越し！

I dug up a Nespresso machine in my new workplace.
I asked my boss (president of the company) if I could order
the cleaning solution and Nespresso coffee capsules so that
the consultants who are bringing in Starbucks into the office
can drink coffee at the office instead of spending their own
pennies on expensive Starbucks coffee everyday.
We can also serve it to client who visit our office.
(Drop coffee takes too much time to prepare and if we
made it before hand the taste becomes dull or sometimes
burnt). He gave a go and they arrived from Amazon this week.
I cleaned out the machine with the solution first, I also ran
hot water a few times. I made myself a caramelito (espresso
with a hint of caramel) and it tasted good, so I made asked
everyone else what he wanted and made them some too
(2 Fortissio Lungo, 1 decaffe Lungo).
If we had a hot milk steamer, it will be perfect but I doubt
if my boss will agree to the purchase..

Koki's school will wrap up next Thursday and it will be a sleep
over that night (4 boys!). Flu and noro virus is starting to
spread at school and Koki is worrying about it.
It will be a pizza + salad night (noone has allergy).
Then on the 24th, a Christmas party at Toru's parents house,
28th is the last business day for both Toru and me and
it will be new year!!

New year cards (nengajo) have been ordered online last night
and they will arrive next Monday for both Toru and me to add
some personal message and sign to send out.
Koki will buy blank cards and write/draw on his own for his
friends. 
29th or 30th we must do a house cleaning (oosoji, big cleaning
day in Japan to get rid of this year's dust- bad things- and
welcome new year luck).

End of year is not really a holiday in Japan this year with only
less than a week off, with cleaning and new year cards,
visiting relatives, paying visit to shrine,
it will pass by so fast.

師走、last month of 2016

New workplace

とうとう12月突入。
その字のごとく、日々は飛ぶよう！

師走を目前に今週から新しい就業先スタート。

なかなか特徴のある会社で、興味深い人ばかり。

私が庶務を引き継いだ女性はアメリカで育ったバイリンガル、

その隣の男性はもしかしたら日系かなという雰囲気。

２人とも日本語ペラペラだけど英語のほうがネイティブな感じで

フレンドリーさの加減というか出し方が、日本で育った感じじゃ

ないな、という雰囲気。

社長と他の取締役はみなさん日本で育った日本人、という感じだが、

おそらく仕事を通じて実地で英語を体得したのかなという雰囲気。

コンサルタント２人はおそらく30代前半〜中盤、社長＋取締役は

みなさん50代かな。

会ってない人があと４人くらいいるらしいが、その人たちは企業に

常駐してPMをしているらしく、再来週の社内全体MTGで顔を合わ

せるらしい。 

コンサル２人と木曜にランチにいった時に、なかなか濃い人材が

多くて動物園みたいだよ、と言っていた。

お客さんは社長と取締役の１人の経歴から、運輸・航空系が多い

らしいが、シドニーにも一人取締役がいてオフィスを構えている

ので、その辺からもメールや社内文書はすべて英語。オフィスでの

会話は日本語という感じ。

すでに金曜は朝オフィスの鍵を開け、帰りみなさんが出払っていた

ので閉めて帰って来た。 小さい会社あるある。

なんといっても、下の子の保育園（うちから徒歩１０分）からチャリ

でドアツードア20分くらいで着くのがほんっとーに楽！

良い職場が見つかって、しばらくは変わらなくて良さげでほっと

一息の１週間でした。

社長から年賀状のデザインを頼まれたのだが、自分のもやらなきゃ。

そういや、今年はクリスマス、どっちの家も集まらないのかな〜

今年はチキン焼くのきついし、買って持ってこうかな〜

My new work started this week.

A small project management company run by ex aviation guys,

1 Japanese and 1 Kiwi (based in Sydney).

My job is an office manager hired to alleviate all non-project 

management task from consultants including payroll and

expense report preparation before handing over to an

accountant for the actual calculation and settlement. 

I am also asked to take over the hiring process from CEO.

This month, plus year end tax adjustment stuff for all staff.

Office management is fun (for me). I like doing little things

like ordering things to be used in the office, designing 

company brochure or new year cards, updating website,

etc. I am not so much of a fan of payroll stuff but since

I am told I am only going to be responsible for double checking

the information before sending to an accountant, I can take on.

After one week, I feel this time a good fit.

I ride my bicycle to the workplace and it only takes 20 minutes!

Plus, the area is my most favorite place to work so its a big plus

there too (I have worked in this same area in the past twice.

There are many good restaurants though the price standard

is a bit higher than other areas in Tokyo.)

I am asked to design the company new year card for 2017.

I also need to do our family one.

I am going to look for design ideas for both now while Hiroto

is still asleep.
