加速, accelerating

Home made burger and fries

If you are not enjoying what you are doing, then why do it?

After a meeting with a client, I felt my stress glass overflowing.
I am just not good at sales (or I do not enjoy doing it).
I told the CEO via email that,
1. I want to make this project the last project for me to take a lead as a client relations manager,
2. I want to focus mainly on translation and localization project at the Japanese startup from here on.

He understood (or had no choice).
Ever since the cameraman left us, the production and the content on Facebook has been suffering... but we need to push our way forward anyhow. With 600,000 fanbase, it is too bad(?) to stop here. What can we do?!
I am sure the CEO is thinking more than I have been.

I will still be involved with this company (since I am the only staff on Japan side..) but just not as Client Relations.

My nature and soul tells me this every time I have a struggle,

if you are not enjoying what you are doing, then why do it?

I am getting deeply absorbed in English writing world which I need to improve my skills.
I contacted Charlie whom I used to assist until September at an education service company. He recommended a book for me via email, so I ordered right away.https://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-English-Grammar-Betty-Schrampfer/dp/0133382788

I have not studied English for decades and it feels so exciting and inspiring to get my hands on this once again!!

Looking forward to seeing new side of me in 2019!

Accelerator Program

CEO of a Japanese startup company I have been helping out with localization/ translation aspect participated in an accelerator program
A winter wetsuit from 14 yrs ago still fits me!!
run and sponsored by Deloitte and Nomura (investment banking) and won the first place out of participating 7 startups.
It was such an exciting experience to be present at the event as the winner's employee.
CEO made a perfect presentation and perfect thank you comment after winning the prize.
She is such an inspiring and intelligent individual and I truly feel lucky to be working for a company run by such motivated individual.

My opportunity and motivation has steadily been growing at this startup ever since I started working in last October.
My role started out with simply a Japanese to English 'translation', but rapidly expanded to localization which I have been wanting to get back into since little before I gave birth to Koki in 2009.

First 2 months were a trial for me (and also for the employer) to see I could work my schedule around my 2 kids and house chore.
My boss was from the beginning very lenient about my work schedule and environment allowing me to work from home whenever I needed to. This played a big part and I greatly appreciate his support. Unfortunately, he will be promoted and will no longer be my boss, but hopefully we will be able to work together in some extent.

As long as this supportive environment remains the same and my role does not change drastically, I see myself working in this environment for a long period of time.

Just like surfing, once I set my mind to one thing, I want to focus (although I am still a novice+ level surfer, I am a pro at mind level....).
Now that Hiroto is in one of the best public day cares in our ward which is only 2 minute walk from our house, I decided to increase my work schedule and told my family that I want to focus and a bit more time to my career this year.

Toru and I (or probably mostly me) need to come up with a clever solution for Koki's after school hours.
Right now, he comes home and goes to play (games) with his friends at one of friends' house about twice a week. I let him bring his friends home once a week which I want to continue doing as much as possible, but from my career perspective, I'd like to find him something to do maybe like a workshop on one day out of a week.
Maybe the solution is to do a remote work every other Wednesday when he gets out of school early so he can at least invite his friends over once every 2 weeks.

We will see.

I am planning to go surfing sometime this month, in the middle of freezing winter in Japan, the coldest season!
Surfing strongly entices me whenever I want to focus and push for a new start.
This is because surfing helps me get rid of unnecessary thoughts and focus on what's important for me at that point of time in my life.

I pulled out my winter wetsuit I have not worn for over 10 years, my boots and gloves. All ready to go.

Happy New Year!

お雑煮、zoni- new year soup

Wishing everyone a prosperous and joyful year ahead!
As a Japanese tradition, we ate noodle (longevity) with shrimp tempura last night,
watched TV, celebrated the new year mark and hit bed last night.
(3 year old was awake till midnight to celebrate too)

This morning, I slept till I naturally woke up (around 9 a.m.) and cooked Japanese
traditional new year dish called ozoni. Each region of japan has different receipt, and
my mom's receipe was all vege soup with mainly soy sauce soup, but this year,
I tried a receipe from my favorite app.
Soup is based off a chicken broth + bonito + kelp with a hint of soy sauce, mirin and
salt topped with boiled carrots, komatsuna spinach, chicken and a slice of yuzu citrus
and mochi cakes (non sweet).
Very good but turns out Hiroto does not like mochi, a rice cake, some thing we Japanese
eat alot in the new year season (and this is the only season we eat mochi).

Today, we will pay a visit to a local shrine to make a new year pray.

All of us are off alll this week though many go back to work on the 4th.
I am going back to work from next Monday and Toru on Tuesday (+ Koki and Hiroto too on Tues.).

Again, Happy New Year!
