Nice flyer design

例年より長いはずのお正月休みも
終わってみるとあっという間。
昨日から平常通りの生活に。

年末に飛び込みで入った子供向けの
昆虫図鑑の翻訳。
漢字全てにルビ（ふりがな）をふり
昨夜納品したものの、
ソフトの違い＆互換性がなくうまく
読み込むない、と今朝連絡がきた。

昼過ぎから急遽伯母宅にいったが
こちらのPCにもソフトがなく断念。
結局納品先が対応してくれることに
なってホッと一息。

その後、せっかく近くまで出向いたから、
と自由が丘へセールを見に。

と、たまに覗く好きなショップを覗いたら
セール価格でそこまでモコモコしない
ショート丈のダウンを発見。

一応ブルゾンタイプの真綿の上着も試したが
やはりダウンの暖かさに屈服。

昔母に、

ダウン＝オシャレじゃない

とすり込まれた身としては少し屈辱だが
まあロング丈じゃないし
暖かさには変えられないし。。。

そしてウール＋アンゴラの薄手だけど暖かい
セーターも購入。

この冬はこれでひとまず凌げそう。

オシャレの一番の要素は「若さ」でしょうか？

昔はあんなに暑がりだったのに。。。

A winter sale season usually starts on a new year's day (Jan 1st)
and ends around 2nd week of Jan here in Japan.

On a first day, people line up for hours to buy a Fukubukuro,
a lucky bag, which usually contains randomly selected clothes
with a big discounted price by apparel brand.
Then follows a regular winter sale.

The older, the colder you feel (except for menopause period).
I have been wanting to buy a warm down jacket for past few
years and finally yesterday I bought a nice down jacket with
a fur-like rimmed hood with30% off sales price, and also 
a nice warm sheep wool x angora wool sweater, both from
this favorite brand of mine from France.

I first saw their shop in Paris few years ago and absolutely
loved their style, then it came to Tokyo the following year.
Since then I check in sometimes, but usually they are
too expensive, so I almost only shop during they are on 
sale.

Indeed, Tokyo has almost everything you wish for....

初詣

あけましておめでとうございます。
今年もよろしくお願い致します。

今年は年末年始恒例になっているノロウィルス、ロタウィルス
などにもやられず、健康に年を越し、
元旦は旦那の実家、
２日の昨日は私の祖母宅（今は叔父宅）、
に行って来た。

息子のいとこたちも大きくなり、
旦那の妹のところには２人目の男の子、
私の従兄のところには１人目の男の子、
が生まれてますます賑やかになった。

去年１年を振り返ると、体調、心調（？）波乱含みで
新年を迎え、後半までなんとなくスッキリしない
感じのまま。

おかげでいろいろと勉強になった一年。

いろいろ経験すると、キツいことであれば
あるほど他人に寛容になれる気がする。
何事も経験、という言葉を実感した一年。
そうゆう意味でも苦しみ（という程までいかないが。。）
から実りを得た一年だった。

仕事面は唯一常に向上だった。
翻訳の仕事が定着してきたのは嬉しい。

さて、今年はどんな一年になるか。

Happy New Year!

We were virus free this end of a year and beginning of a year
and were able to attend both family's new year gathering.

2012 was rather a rough year for us with
so many hurdles to clear, but because it was rough,
I learned so much out of it.
Harder the life is, more you learn through the experience.

You become more and more understanding and gentle
to others from your own experience of pain.

My career wise it was always progressing and I am thankful
for that and also for the fact that we are all healthy and
living the way we were a year ago.

一日のはじまり、a day's start

読書

朝７時起床。

洗濯機をかけ、ニュースを見ながら前日の洗濯物を畳む。

７時４５分、仕事のメールチェック。

終わった洗濯物干す。朝食の準備。

８時半あたり旦那、息子起床。

息子と朝ご飯。

９時過ぎ旦那でかける。

１０時息子を保育園へ送る。

戻って掃除。

１１時仕事開始。

これが私の典型的な一日の始まり。

１０時の保育園の送りの後に裏の商店街で買い物に

寄る日もある。

この小さな商店街、３００mくらいしかないが、

魚屋も肉屋も２軒ずつあり、八百屋、パン屋、豆腐屋、

焼き鳥屋、練り物屋（！）、薬屋もある。

魚、肉、果物、野菜はスーパーより安いし鮮度がいいから

これまた良い。

駅の向こう側に行けば東急や大きな商店街もあるけど、

このこじんまり感が私はザ東京て感じで好き。

やはり東京といえば商店街、でしょ。

東京に住むなら商店街の栄えている所に住みたいのが

私の心情。

昨日は先々週借りた図書館の本が返却日だったから、

保育園送りに行った足を伸ばし返却に行き、小説３冊、

絵本２冊を借り、帰りに裏の商店街で買い物をした。

その後、その商店街の入り口にあるたまに行くジャズ珈琲

喫茶に寄ってサンドイッチとミルクコーヒーのお昼を

とりながらひさびさにゆっくりじっくり読書。

よしもとばななから読み始めたら（2002年出版のバナタイム）、

本を置けなくなり１時間くらいで読破。

懐かしいな、よしもとばななばかり読んでいる時期がその昔

あったな。。。

ふ、と田舎に引っ込んだらこんな場所も時間も手近には

存在しないだろうな、と実感。

おそらく車に乗って買い物へ行きアレコレ買い込んだら、

どこかに寄れないし、寄ろうとも思わないだろうから。

そして年の瀬にこの地に移り住んで紡いで来た人との関係に

思いを馳せ、

東京暮らしも悪くないな〜

と再認識し始めている。

欲を言うと、もう少しだけ、０．５kmくらい住宅街にひっこめ

たら言うこと無いが。。。。

I wake up at 7 am, do the laundry, cook breakfast.

Around 8:30 am, Toru and Koki wake up.

Toru leaves at 9ish, I take Koki to his day care around 10ish.

I then usually come home, clean, start working around 11am

This is my routine, everyday, except for the days I go out.

Yesterday, after dropping off Koki, I walked to a public library

to return books. I then borrowed some books (3 for me, 2 for Koki),

walked back to a small shopping street near our place.

This shopping street, though only about 300m or so long, it offers

2 meat shops, 2 fish shops, a tofu shop, a drug store, a yakitori

stand (a bar that serves skewered chicken on sticks), fruit/vege

shop (cheap and fresh! from market everyday), and some cafes.

After doing some shopping, I stopped by at a small jazz cafe which

I sometimes to work when I get a heavy translation project.

I ordered a sandwich (which turned out to be very delicious) and

a milk-coffee (a latte) and started reading a book by Banana Yoshimoto.

Banana is very popular not only here in Japan but also in Europe.

Her father is also a famous writer.

I finished reading the book in about an hour with good jazz.

I appreciated the time I spent on reading and jazz/ coffee there.

At the end of the year, I am reevaluating this unique life in Tokyo.

I love the area I live in and shopping streets (called shotengai) in the area.

Shotengai is very Tokyo, I think, and each town's shotengai offers

its unique characteristics.  That is what makes the town.

Now I hear that a developer is planning to put up 40 story condo buildings

(not just one, 3! Is this Shanghai or what?)

in front of the station. I hope that will not change this culture and life

around shotengai in the area.

Tokyo

カフェにて, at a cafe in central Tokyo

今朝は用事で朝から渋谷。
終わり今は表参道に向かう途中の
カフェでランチ。

うーむ、贅沢な時間だ。


週末我が家は旦那の実家で
クリスマスパーティー。
23日夜から集まり夕飯、24日に
子供達はプレゼントをもらった。

息子はトミカ消防署、ウルトラマン
おもちゃPC、カーズレゴ、デジカメ(!!)
を貰った。
自分が3歳の頃は覚えてないが、
おそらくものすごい変わりばえだと
思う。

「今の子は贅沢だなぁ…」

と老婆心を働かせてしまう私であった。

うちの母は厳格かつ自分の趣味ゴリ
押しだった、ので私も姉たちも
キャラクターものは買って
貰えなかった。

ランドセルも上から黒、茶、紺で、
当時のいち公立小学校の女子で赤以外は
うちの姉妹だけ、
しかも髪の毛もセシールカットとか
いう当時流行った外人モデルの髪型
とかで超がつくベリーショートに
させられていた。
そりゃあ男子からネタにされたもんだ。
（母よ、顔立ちと髪色•髪質を考えて
ショートはやってくれよ）

まあ、おかげで打たれ強くなったが…

話戻ってカフェ。
ビル3階窓際でかなりウォッチングに
適した場所。
行き交う人々がさまざまで面白い。

東京はいろいろな人がいる、
この刺激と利便性は東京の
好きなところ。

師走にエンジョイ東京ライフ。

In-between Shibuya and Omotesando.
Very interesting, looking down on a
street with a cup of coffee.

Shibuya is fomous for its big crossing
with a massive crowd crossing at a
time. A town for the young.
On the other hand, Omotesando is
for the rich and mature those who
are explicit in style.

Very different.

And I'm sitting in-between the two
enjoying mix of people.
We get Shibuya street type, Omotesando
snobbish type plus other types,
though almost no business men.

This, I like about Tokyo.
Mix of people can stimulate your life.

師走、December

気づいたら年内も数えるほど。
そんな12月２週目は風邪っぴきの
息子がずっと在宅。

先週入った仕事をたまたま週明け
早め納品していたからセーフ。

歯医者行ったり、図書館いったり、
区役所行ったりと後半は普通に
過ごしたが、
日頃朝から夕方まで保育園いってる
息子が週4で家にいると正直持て余し
気味になった私であった。

ちなみに週明け納品した仕事は、
親子英会話アプリの150フレーズ出し
という珍しい企画仕事でなかなか
面白かった。

翻訳仕事、今年後半は結構頻繁に
あった。そして嬉しいのは、
以前は私の翻訳にチェックが入って
いたのが無くなり、身入りがかなり
増したこと。

ただ、翻訳仕事は安定しないのが
辛い。いつ途絶えるかわからない。

そして明日は別に手伝ってる会社の
忘年会。
お約束の六本木ヒルズクラブ。
旦那が仕事のため、息子と連れ立って
いく予定。
せっかくシャンパン飲み放題なのに、
そんなに飲めないなぁ…

そして、久々に友達と飲み行きたいなぁ。
でも友達がみんなママになっちゃって、
子供旦那に預けてまでてきそうな人
いないなぁ…
（意外に⁈みんなきっちり母タイプ
だったのね…）

しっぽり家飲みかしらね〜

This week was irregular week with
Koki sick home 4 out if 5 days.
To be precise, he was really sick the
1st 2 days but since the day care had
a child with flu in a class one age younger
than Koki and I had turned in my
latest work by end of Monday,
I led my son stay home for rest of the week.

Koki becoming more and more active
these days, he time to time got out of
control (want to climb, want to jump,
want to punch and kick... boys),
and so we went to my dentist (change
of air), a library, and City Hall (for work).

This new project of a mom-child
English conversation mobile apps,
it was fun.

I really enjoy working on this type of
projects and translation projects.
Hopefully there will be more of them
coming.

Koki and I are off to a Job Well Done
brunch party (called Bonen Kai, popular around this time of the year) at Roppongi
Hills Club tomorrow.

LES CREUSET

おでん

明日は私の両親、姉夫婦４人と姪っ子一人が

来て早めのクリスマスパーティーの予定が、

両親を皮切りに、義兄２人が風邪でダウン。

のため中止。

鶏肉焼くぞ！

と意気込みお肉屋さんに頼んでいたので、

断るのも悪いし、数を減らしてもらって、

持って帰ってローストチキンに。

魚焼きグリルで表面をカリッとさせた後、

じゃがいも、人参を敷いた上にのせル・クルーゼでロースト。

それにしてもル・クルーゼ。

以前も書いたと思うが、すごい。

普通の肉が極上に仕上がること間違いなし。

今回は以前書いた深鍋ではなく、最近早めのクリスマスプレゼント、
といって義母がプレゼントしてくれた浅型の鍋。

先々週はこれで豚バラ肉とキャベツを煮て、一昨日はおでんをやった。
冬はル・クルーゼ大活躍の我が家。

I just finished cooking chicken in a skillet type Les Creuset pan.
My mother in law gave me a big casserole pan last year and I take it
out once in a while when I roast meat or veges.

This year she gave me a skillet type pan and it's even greater than the
big pan.

Because it is heavy, it seems hard to handle, but this is why it cooks
so well.

An ordinary meat and veges come out as an extraordinary plate.

Today I cooked chicken because my parents and my sisters and
their husbands and a niece were all supposed to get together tomorrow.

Turns out my parents, both in law brothers sick.
Hopefully we can get together before end of year...

Koki is starting to receive Christmas gifts!!
Great season for kids... as parents' wallets become thinner...

ぱーてー, Friday night party

Baja Yaro! in Daikanyama

昨夜はひさびさにLAっぽいパーティーにいってきた。

以前書いた、私が仕事を手伝ってるカリフォルニア出身の
人が定期的に趣味で開催しているタコスイベント。
子連れもいて息子も楽しく遊んだ。

ロス仕込みの本物タコスをオリオンビールと食す。
小さめだけど２コ600円とリーズナブル、
趣味だからこの値段が可能？
美味しかった。また食べたい！

21時頃旦那も現れ、雑踏で全く聞こえないけど、
翻訳を手伝ったスライドショーを見、
旦那がタコスを食べ、
出て来たマリアーチバンドに圧倒され
息子不機嫌になったので帰って来た。

寒い外に出て旦那と、

ひさびさだね、こうゆうLAっぽいパーティー。。。

と今となれば遠いロスの日を思い出した夜だった。

We went to a tacos party Craig, a guy I help with translation sometimes
who's from California, runs every once in a while, it's his hobby,
serving home made tacos to people he knows.

Because my main purpose was to watch a slide of Mexico
I helped the translation work with, Koki and I left towards that,
starting from 9pm, bit late.

Party was at a small restaurant located in a basement of a concrete,
somewhat very Daikanyama (high fashion, high residence area of
Tokyo, only 20 min ride from our place yet very different atmosphere)
building.

I had a carnitas (pork) taco and a vege taco, 2 for 600 JPY (abtou $7),
not bad for Tokyo pricing. Very good tacos too.

Slideshow, I could not hear anything.... cuz everyone with drinks,
well, its a party, can't blame.

Toru showed up later, had tacos.
Koki was overwhelmed with a mariachi band which played in front of
us (pic above),
and we left for home.

Outside, putting our jackets on, Toru and I murmured,

that was so LA..., it's been a while since we were in that kind of party atmosphere,

we enjoyed the un-Japan yet very Tokyo in a way Friday night.
