Koki and I met up with my mom, a great aunt and her
daughter in Marunouchi near Tokyo station.
This is a downtown area of Tokyo where many business
buildings stand.
On weekdays, many people wearing ties, suits, and shiny
leather shoes with serious face (?) pass by each other.
This part of Tokyo, I rarely come.
Because my mom and her party were in Ueno visiting a
museum to see their friend's son's photography exhibited,
we picked a middle place, Marunouchi, to meet up for
lunch together.
On the ground floor of a building called Marunouchi Brick
Square, we sat on outside terrace to have lunch.
Because this building has a nice patio with lots of greens
and flowers surrounded by old brick buildings,
this restaurant we sat outside is a popular place to
have meal, facing the patio.
Outside runs a huge shopping street filled with many
highend shops including Hermes, Baccarat, and Tiffany.
There have been many high rises built through past few
years containing lower and upper floors with shops and
restaurants and middle floors for offices.
Marunouchi area is just outside Tokyo station, so it attracts
many tourists from different parts of Japan.
After lunch, we went on a 50 minute bus tour and we sat
on a roof of a red bus just like London.
It went around a royal palace, Nagatacho (where National
Diet Building is), Ginza (an old/highend shopping town),
then back to Marunouchi area.
It was very interesting to see people lining up in front of
a French butter (yes butter!) shop to buy corissant or
madalaine at 11:30AM on Saturday.
I wonder what goes in those people's mind...
Are they just so addicted, or is it for business?
I can't imagine... can you?
