My almost one month translation project done!
I just finished looking over 100 pages of my translation.
It was a constant looking back, editing, rewriting process,
however, again, I enjoyed it.
Towards the end of the journey,
I was starting to understand the author's writing tendency
and his sense of wordings that
just my translation just took off.
I also found myself spending time more efficiently, not
taking advantage of this lucrative, convenient environment of
Tokyo, just totally ignoring it.
I barely went out, if I had to, I just went in the closest market and
bought for 3 days so I don't have to go again.
Very economical.
I enjoyed being alone, working on your own is a lonesome business,
but I seem to enjoy it more and more now.
I could, yes really could, live out in a suburb, even in a countryside,
where I just do my own thang, and when tired, go out and enjoy
the nature around,
come back in, make tea, make dinner,
get back to work.
Once in a while I make trip to Tokyo to meet biz ppl,
get enough work for next one month or so,
come back, stay home do my own thang.
On weekend, we can go to a mountain or beach, play with nature
with my family.
Just live and grow with what's naturally surrounding us....
Just dreaming, dreaming away here in a small metropolitan apartment
in the heck center of Tokyo....
Job well done!!

休み明けに、after a summer break
| 花火待ち waiting for fireworks to start |
A big translation project flew in right before we hit OBON break,
and of course I did not do it much before or during it,
so now my work pace is in top gear, it needs to be, to make it
to the deadline, end of this month.
Though, it requires much diligence and persistence, both of which
are not really my expertise, I enjoy the work.
Every time I get a new project,
I do lots of research on the subject matter, and this alot of times helps me open
a door to a new world which I never knew of.
It is almost like reading a new book, but whats great about it is that
you don't choose the subject matter,
the publisher chooses it for you.
Sometimes it is refreshing to think outside of the box to open a
new frontier for yourself, even if it is for a little while.
Fireworks at Tamagawa River last weekend was fabulous.
It made me forget about all this animosity surrounding Japan right now
about who has what where.
If we all had this mind of sharing, there shall be no animosity.
After all, the land belongs to the almighty (or whatever you call it yourself).
Can't we all share?

Ultraman
We took Koki to an Ultraman Base in Kawasaki Lazona on Saturday.
He loved playing in a ball pool or tranpolin, but he cried at
a sight of a bad guy coming out on a stage on a hero show.

that was showing a preview of a documentary file called
"Nursery University".
It was about parents in the richest area of New York trying to get
their kids into the best nursery school in the neighborhood.
I heard a bit about this in LA as well, how good school has a long
waiting list to get in,
but to see it real, it was surprising how any metropolitan city
is experiencing a similar phenomenon.
The only difference is,
in Tokyo, parents try to get their kids into public nursery schools
where in NY, most parents try for expensive private schools.
It think this difference is from the fact that,
1. in Tokyo, kids go to nursery schools to be taken care of on behalf
of their parents who work,
2. in NY, many rich kids go to nursery schools for educational or social purpose,
though, there are certain (rich) areas in Tokyo where parents enter
their kids into expensive nursery schools for the same reason as NY parents,
but they are usually non Japanese parents and international schools.

The 2nd anniversary party of the company I work for right now wrapped up
successfully with 32 attendees, rather small but a warm party.
They party took place on the 51st floor of Roppongi Hills Club,
one of the finest executive membership club in Tokyo, which served a
great view of Tokyo,
yet being a MC and coordinator of the party (the host, my boss, was busy
greeting/ socializing with clients),
I could not really enjoy the view.
Nijikai, after party, was given to those who are close to us and 10 people
including the staff stayed.
I chatted with our important client from the Netherlands and his secretary
about Holland. I told them how much I loved Amsterdam and wished I
could live there for few years.
Before I said goodbye, our client told me,
"A person like you should seek to live outside Japan for at least one more time
in your life, especially Europe if you never lived there."
Past several years, especially after I had Koki,
I have been suppressing this kind of thought intentionally.
I don't know why, but for some reason, I felt I had to do it to settle down which
seems like a best solution for peace of mind.
But, after our client told me what he said,
I realize I still have a bit in myself which seeks for such opportunity,
therefore, I decided to let my mind be open about it.
Never know what the life brings.

I found this small jazz cafe in my neighborhood.
I found it few years ago and since then I have been wanting to check it out and
last week I finally went in. An old man with quiet voice explained his coffee
menu and then his jazz vinyl collections.
I requested Theloneous Monk and he played Monk's memorial concert for me.
I was watching people come in and out of the cafe.
Some people come for the purpose of jazz and others merely to eat or to drink coffee,
careless for jazz.
A perch for everyone. Cafe like this used to exist everywhere, especially in Tokyo,
in small shopping streets, but nowdays they are replaced by franchise coffee shops
like Starbucks or Tullys, such shame.
I intend to go there every once in a while, with no wifi but just to do nothing
but to meditate with jazz.
