Rain season starts

Tokyo is now in rain season, too early this year.  Weather forecast man said starting early does not mean wrapping up early, miserable.

Koki went to day care on Thursday and I went to register my profile at another recruiting agency.  How many agencies have I registered in my life? I wondered to myself on my way to their office.
I must have read over my resume at least 20 times in my life that I am starting to wonder if I can just record it and play it.  This is a burden of changing your jobs frequently.
Rolling stone surely gathers moss but if it says in one place it will be covered with moss as well because moss grows on it.

Now that work has become means of life rather than pursue of my life, I hope to find something that compensates itself fairly well and leaves time and space for my family.

Or maybe I should just start a tiny cafe selling scones and good coffee?  Haha, in my dream!

So we went to the beach.. only to find it windy and cold. Though we brought our wetsuits, we figured it is too windy for surfing and too cold for Koki to even play on sand, so we left.  I packed up lunch box for us to munch at the beach, instead we went to a temple and ate there.  This is the temple we came for my grandma's 49th day ritual 2 weekends ago.

Another moment to learn things don't always go the way you plan it.  Thats life.

海のある生活 - life near the beach

with Maya

My old Docomo phone finally died on me and I changed my phone to iPhone 4.  I was to buy an Android phone but found out Softbank(only carrier of iPhone in Japan) offers student discount monthly plan which becomes applicable for me if I put Koki as the phone user.  All other smart phones cost almost double the iPhone (with discount) a month.  With Wifi it is very useful.

Because Koki loves ocean so much and I always wanted to stay near the beach, ever since I got back from Hawai'i I have been collecting real estate information in Kamakura, especially in Zaimokuza Beach area.  I grew up going to Zaimokuza Beach and always wanted to live in the area ever since I was little.  Every summer when my father managed to snatch a short holiday, I used to go there with frozen juice, bento box and a parasol with my family to swim.  Now days I go there to surf time to time being the closes surfable (sometimes, not always) beach from Tokyo.  Every time I go my memories of going there so many times before all come back to me and makes me happy.
Zaimokuza Beach is indeed a special beach for me, not like any other beach, and I hope to come back and live there in near future.

戻りました - back in Japan

A day after our return

We are back in Tokyo.  May is one of the best months in Tokyo, nice weather.  Makes me want to go to beach.  Koki keeps saying "shampi (surfing)" ever since he got back.  Maybe he understands how I feel? Or he reminisces over days in Hawaii.  Whatever the reason is, I welcome it. I miss the ocean too.
I told him to to tell it to his dad and he did.  Looks like we might head down to the beach this weekend.  Hooray!!

Mother's Day

At Halekulani Hotel

Stoke, man!

Lunch at Kaneshiors patio.

Bodhi tree at Kaneshiros
We went to Halekulani Hotel to join Mother's Day breakfast with Kaneshiro families just like we did for Easter.  This time because Toru's here, I was able to enjoy hotel's fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit, scrambled egg, crispy bacon etc.  So nice to have breakfast like that, especially that it is prepared by someone other than myself.

After breakfast we went to beach.  Toru rented a 10ft surfboard.  Koki wanted to surf so bad, kept telling me "shampi" (surfing in his language) pointing a finger at his dad who sits way out in the water.
I played with him with his turtle floating toy and he was happy.  Now that he is so comfortable in the water and loves to be in it, I am determined to take him surfing when we go back.

In the afternoon, we rented a car and drove up to Palolo Valley to see our friends.  We stayed for dinner.  Their house is such a nice house, we love it.  I cannot believe it has been a month already and days Koki and I spent at their house seems like long ago.  We'd love to be back again next year hopefully.

One and half day more left till we fly off!! We are going to enjoy till the last minute!

Aloha!

Storm

Shaka, aloha

Banana Pina Colada, Mango Margarita
A cap, just like his daddy.

Rock'n roll man!
Storm has been lingering around Hawai'i over a week now.  Too bad for tourists who just made it here.  Before that it was all sunny and hot, perfect for going to the beach.

We wear bathing suit when we go out to catch the sun that comes out in between rain and cloud and hop in the water and on the beach to enjoy our Hawaiian vacation.

Last night we headed to Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu.  I usually don't drink cocktails, but remniscent music like Guns 'n Roses, Metalica, Korn drew us in to it.   I requested Mango plus passion fruit frozen daiquiri and it was good.

A server lady asked me if we were from here or just visiting.  I guess they have a special deal for locals or something, which many of hotels, rental car companies offer too, cheaper for locals. When we still had my California driver's license, we used to rent our cars far cheaper than that with Japanese or international driver's license.

Thing to watch out at restaurants, some include gratuity on their total and if you don't check your bill, you might end up paying double gratuity.  I kindly asked a server to take it off so we can pay for the tip seperately and they did it without any problem, but I believe many Japanese tourists would just end up paying even if the service is poor, which is totally unfair I think.

Anyway, let's hope for better weather for Mother's Day weekend!

休暇モード - a family at last!

At Waikiki Beach

Let's go to the beach!
My husband arrived yesterday afternoon.  My son acted shy for first few minutes, but then started showing happiness.  We walked to Waikiki Beach before sunset and walked around Waikiki going in and out of shops to kill time to wait for an old restaurant Dave recommended, Chuck's Seller, to open up (5:30PM), then our son fell asleep in my husband's arms 15 mins to 5:30PM.  Oh well, you cannot expect too much with a baby.

We instead bought some plate dinners from Food Pantry where we stopped by to buy next morning's breakfast bread.  $7.99 dinner steak combo with brown rice with furikake, prime rib steak with teriyaki sauce, salad with vinegar dressing was pretty good.  You cannot get that much for the same price in Tokyo.  Beef steak is one of good food in US we enjoy.

Today, it is chilly to go to beach, so we headed out to Alamoana SC to find several things like T shirts, belts, caps etc. for my husband.  Because a good surf brand T shirt can cost up to $70 in Japan, he usually saves up and buy whole bunch of stuff when he comes to Hawaii or any other US city (well, it is usually Hawaii).

I have my bathing suit finally, cannot wait to go to the beach!!!  I want to go back to Kaimana Beach again, nice sand shallow beach, ideal for kids.
