ハロウィンの飾り Our Halloween decoration

毎年早まる日本のハロウィン、今年も早々といたるところで飾りが見られて楽しい。
３月までしばらく勤めた会社は英国系だったため、ハロウィンやサンクスギビングなど、アメリカでしか祝わない行事は当然祝わない様子だった。というか、祝う行事でも彼らはアメリカのような盛り上がりは見せず、地味に祝うイメージだった。
アメリカしか住んだことがない私はやはりアメリカの行事が好き。根っからのパーティー好きが多いアメリカは行事となると派手に騒ぐ、これが好き。見ず知らずの人にも"Happy Halloween!"、帰国する年にいったハリウッドのハロウィン仮装パレードが忘れられない。すごかった、アメリカ人の仮装に傾ける情熱、またそのうちいってみたい。
そして、外国からの借り物文化の多い日本は？というと、やはり祭り好きな人が多い気がする。だからハロウィンもこんなに浸透したんだと思う。

あい・らぶ・ハロウィン、　です。

Halloween is getting its recognition and event-citizenship in Japan through past few years.  Just like Christmas, people in Japan tend to start decorating much earlier than US. As soon as we hear autumn wind blow and feel temperature decline, we start seeing pumpkins here and there.
I do not know how this whole Halloween craze started in Japan but it is certainly fun with colorful decorations. Koki loves it too and he will go trick or treating with his pirate costume from the sports event few weeks ago on the last date of October with his friends at a day care.
I myself bought a rainbow colored afro wig off a small shop with a big discount for it being on a display.

I am trying to think what we can do fun with Koki on Halloween.

あつまり - a small family event

上野動物園 Ueno Zoo

土曜日の昼、先月息子の体調不良で駄目になった集まり、リベンジでうちの母（父は町内会の集まりで来られなかった）、真ん中の姉と姪、伯母、親戚のお姉さんと大叔母が揃った。楽しかった。数日前から従姉が来るのを楽しみにしていた息子も大喜び。従姉と奇声を上げて遊んでいた。

母方の親戚筋はほぼ全員地元に居住のため、私が小さい頃から頻繁に集まった。正月、お祭り、花火、敬老の日、クリスマスはもちろん、何も行事がなくてもなーんとなく同じ年頃の子供同士、祖母宅で集まり遊び、親はお茶飲んだり、ご飯を支度したり、祖父を囲み一杯やったりしていた。大きい部屋が大人、小さい部屋が子供、と分かれていてその間は襖で区切られており、大人の部屋に入るにはノック（襖なのにどうノックしたかは定かじゃないが）した記憶がある。大人の部屋は入ると時により会話が止まったり、祖父に「何だ！」と半ば叱られ口調で聞かれた。

３連休最終日の昨日は上野動物公園へ。本物のゾウやキリン、ゴリラの大きさに興奮していた。パンダは超人気で遠目に見たが、こちらも大きかった。帰りは上野から一本で戻り、旦那の祖母宅で両親も一緒に夕食。こちらのお宅は正月に集まるが、旦那が小さかった頃はやはり従弟妹たちと何かと集まったらしい。
江戸っ子で気風がいい祖母も今年で９３歳、大分耳が遠くなり、独り住まいが心配になってきて、義母が義伯母と交代で寝泊まりしている。

良く言うけれど、自分が子供を持ってつくづく親の苦労、ありがたみが身にしみるようになり、そして折にふれ家族のつながりの大切さを実感する。

On Saturday afternoon, my mom, my sister and my niece, my aunt, my grandma's cousin and her daughter (they live close by) came to our house for lunch. Koki was happy to see everyone but especially his 3 year old (soon to be 4 years old) cousin Kazusa. Last time she came, Koki was not ready to share many of his favorite toys, but this time he was eager to share all his toys and have fun with her. They ran around our small condo room with toys in their hands.

Again, when I was a child, my mom's family, because everyone except for an aunt who came on Saturday lived in a same neighborhood,  used to gather around all the time at my grandma's house (she passed away this March). Children would sit in a small room and have lunch or dinner and parents and adults would eat in a bigger, fancier room with chairs and tables. Children used to have to knock on fusuma doors (old Japanese style sliding doors or panels) when we entered the adult's room. There used to be distinct atmosphere of the adult's room which felt like going into a principal's office or something.

Yesterday being a holiday, we went to a zoo. Koki was happy to see real elephants, a gorilla, a giraffe, etc. walking in front of him.  Because it was a holiday, the place was packed with families and young couples. I hope to go back again on a weekday then maybe we can get a closer look at pandas which had a long waiting line.
On our way back, we stopped by at Toru's grandma's house. His parents were also there and we had dinner together.  His grandma lives in a small 2 story house where Toru's cousins used to gather around when they were little.
Now grandma's 93 years old and since she lives alone, Toru's mom takes turns with her sister (Toru's aunt) and stays with her.

A great weekend.

運動会 - sports day

先週土曜日は息子の保育園の運動会だった。
前々から衣装作りに燃え、旗として下げるためのぬりえに発起したおかげか、予想以上に楽しめた。

以前通っていた保育園のお遊戯会では所狭しとカメラを構える親の中でホトホト疲れ果てたが、今回の運動会は小学校の体育館と広いスペースというのもあってか、ガツガツする親も特に目立たなかった。わたし個人の意見としては、ビデオや写真は所詮後で見るもの、ほどほどにして、オンタイムでその場の雰囲気含め楽しむのが一番だな、と思う。

息子の2歳クラスはかけっこ競争と海賊の衣装をきての障害物競走をした。
かけっこは走る前からウズウズしている様子で、いざスタートを切ったらコース外へまっしぐら。障害物競走は旦那が併走し見事１位☆

子供持つまでは「ああゆうのメンドクサそうだな・・・」と外野で思っていた運動会。が、実際子を持って参加してみると私は楽しいタイプだった・・・しかも、最後に借り出されて参加したパパママ対抗ひよこ運び競争、ひさびさの競争、しかもグループ競技、結構楽しかった。
幼稚園、小学校も楽しめるかなぁ。

それにしても、日本人はああゆう時にクール過ぎる。
応援しないし、競技なのに盛り上がらない。あれ、アメリカだったら、"hoo!"って言いながらハイタッチしたり、すっごい盛り上がるんだろうな。。。と一人心の中で思ってしまった。

A pirate

We participated in a sports event held by Koki's day care.

Maybe because I prepared his costume and did some coloring on flags to ornament the event, I enjoyed the event very much.

At first, it felt little embarrassing doing physics in front of a crowd (for some reason,every family, and us too, had one parent doing physics with his/her child and the other taking photo or video), as I got used to it, it became fun.

Koki's class (2 year olds) ran a race and an obstacle race (a pirate costume comes in here).  I did some dances with Koki for warming up before and in between those races and Toru ran with Koki in an obstacle race.

Before I became a parent, I used to think it must be dull or tiresome to participate in this kind of school events, but I found out that it can be fun. I actually had a good time last Saturday.

トイレトレーニング - potty training

size 80 パンツ

１歳後半からちらほら補助便座に座り始めた息子。
保育園でもたまにやっているらしく、座ると出る確率が少しずつ増えて来ていた。
先々週会った息子より半年年上のmayaちゃんがパンツになっていて、俄然卒オムツが私の中でホットトピックになった。
ちょうど、アカホンにいく約束をママ友／ベビ友としていたので、パンツを買うことに。
「服はサイズ９０以上でも、パンツは絶対８０」と言うのに習ってそうしたら、その通りだった。
そして、先週日曜、昨日と決行。
先週日曜は１枚目は「出ちゃった」と言われ、みたらオシッコを、２枚目はお尻がモッコリしてることに気づき見たらウンチ。。
昨日は１枚目はやっぱり「出ちゃった」オシッコ。２枚目に変え、しばらくしないままお昼ご飯後トイレに試しに連れて行ったら補助便座で両方出た。
「出ちゃった」でも一応便座に座らせるようにしているが、いつの日か、「出ちゃった」前に「行く」荷なる日が来るのか。。。気長に取り組みます。

お、息子が起きて来た。今日はこれから保育園の運動会いってきます。

Koki slowly started his potty training when he was 1 and 10 months old or so.
We bought him a kid's size toilet seat for him and time to time we take him to sit on it so that it gradually sinks into him as a habit.
Few weeks ago when I went shopping with my friends and their babies to a baby store, I bought him a new underwear so we can take the potty training to a next level. Hands on (or butt on?).
So far he tried four times and yesterday after wetting his first underwear (blue one with robots on it), he changed to his second one and ate lunch. After lunch I took him on a potty and though he claimed "nai (nothing)", I led him sit on it for few more minutes and viola! He did both number 1 and 2.

Right now it is hard to imagine some day he will go to a restroom without telling us and be done with his business before none of us notices.  Some day but in parents' years, soon, I guess.

Oh, there he goes, just woke up, gotta go.

敬老の日 - Respect for the Aged Day

Tea time

敬老の日の連休真ん中日曜日、電車を乗り継ぎ実家へ行って来た。乗り換えの横浜駅で電車を待つ間、行き交う複数の電車に圧倒されたのか、疲れたのか息子はボーっとしていた。
山間にあるうちの実家、私が小さい頃はクーラーなどなくても風が涼しく、日中でも凌げた記憶があるが、自分の体がクーラーに慣れてしまったのか、それともやはり温暖化なのか、昼食後の数時間はかなり暑く、息子も私も汗ダラダラで遊んだ。

帰り最寄り駅まで送ってもらう車の中から寝始めた息子も、地元に戻ると起き出し、駅近の幼なじみＬＥＡパパのお店に立ち寄る。昨日今日と近くないけど管轄（？）内の八幡宮のお祭りのため、人が出るかと思ったら、駅を挟んであっち側のためあまり関係ない様子。
おかげさまで周りのお客さんに気兼ねなく、つまみ＆飲んだ（いつも休みは飲んでばかり？）。ここのお店、つまみが美味しく、ビールもいつも冷えていて、しかも駅近、でプラス友達のパパのお店、という４拍子が揃い、我が家（特に私と息子）はかなり行ってます。しかも子連れで。。（パパ、いつもありがとう）

パパのお店でLEAと

LEAパパのお店を後にし、家に戻り小腹が空いた息子にパンを焼いていたら神輿が戻って来たので外に出た。昨日の出陣の時より人が増えていて大分盛り上がっていた。
子供は祭りが好きなものなのか、昨日祭りの帰りにMIOちゃんが寄った時もちょうど神輿が出陣を終え戻ったところで、うちのマンションの前で２人して小躍りをしていたが、今日の神輿帰着？でも息子テンションUP。
まあ、私も相当祭り好きで神輿を見るとテンション上がるけど。。

実家に帰ると私は「あー地元」と懐かしくなる反面、徐々に東京のこの地に愛着も湧き始め、息子もその環境で育ちつつある。私は生まれも育ちも東京ではないが、息子にとってはここが地元になり、幼なじみも出来ていくはず。その幼なじみとお祭りいったり、神輿担いだりするのかなーと思うと、不思議。

いつの日か、誰か町内会に知り合い作って、足袋を履き、法被を羽織り、腰紐締めて、あのカッコイイ祭りの出で立ちをし、息子にも着せ、神輿の後を歩きたい私であった。

We took 3 trains to visit my parents' house for Keiro no hi (Respect for the Aged Day). This is the day I used to gather around at my grandma's house when I was a kid with my cousins, aunts, and uncles to go to nearby shrine where a big festival (matsuri) was taking place. By then my great grandma was still alive and it was a big family. I had 6 cousins plus my 2 sisters with me and we all used to hang around at our grandma's house all the time.  Now I am a parent, I wish I had a similar gathering at my parents house or my aunt's house or whoever's house, but time has changed and people live differently now days and it is very hard for everyone to gather around in one occasion.

This weekend there was another festival in a neighborhood (different shrine and only one shrine this time, but matsuri much bigger) and since mikoshis rested in a little tent set up in front of our building, we got to see mikoshis marching 3 times.
Yesterday there was a small mikoshi for children and since Koki is still too little to participate in a march, he got to beat a big drum with me before the marching crowd started.

I am looking forward to wearing a matsuri costume (tabi socks, happi jacket etc.) with Koki to participate in a march in a few years. It must be fun.

祭り -matsuri, autumn festival

先週末はこの辺の神社７つ合同の両社祭だった。

朝からお囃子が聞こえ、午後散歩に出ると駅前のロータリーがなにやら準備の様子。

近くで話すおじさんたちが、「これから神輿がくるからよ。」と言っていた。そのまま商店街を進むと遠くからワイサワイサ聞こえて来た。そのうち賑わう商店街の中へ神輿が曲がって来て停まった。三本締めを決め、エッサホッサとさっき準備していた駅前に向かって進んで行った。

近くの、息子のお宮参りにいった神社でお参りをし、家に向かう途中で新しくできた大衆居酒屋で「安いっすよ！」と声をかけられ一休み。ビール１杯２００円、つまみ１５０円。たしかに。息子にカルピスが出くると、「ｙｕｋｏさん！」という声に振り向くと息子の幼なじみとママとばあばがいた。「おー、祭りいったの？」と聞いたら、「うん、これからばあばのとこ戻るの。」。

運動会の準備

しばらくすると、別の息子の幼なじみ（息子には２人の女の子の幼なじみがいる）がママと自転車で登場。しばらくオシャベリして家に戻ると、次の瞬間集中豪雨。

秋は祭りと運動会。

だけど、息子は今週末は喉を腫らし熱。昨日医者にいくとヘルパンギーナかな、と消炎＆解熱剤をもらってきた。今朝は大分いいようだけど、大事をとって外出はしないで、１００円ショップで買い込んで来た材料を使って２４日開催予定の保育園の運動会用の飾り付けのぬりえ、お遊戯衣装（お遊戯もやるらしい）を作る予定。

予想外に衣装作りに燃えている私。

今日は半日、海賊衣装作成にいそしみます！

Quench your thirst

There was a big festival (matsuri) in our neighborhood last weekend. We forgot about it but as we were strolling by in a shopping arcade, a mikoshi came.  Mikoshi is a portable shrine taken out from a shrine at every festival occasion to worship the god.
We then went to one of shrines participating in a matsuri (all together 7 shrines= 7 mikoshis in  this matusri) to pay respect to its god since this is the shrine we went to for Koki's omiyamairi (Japanese tradition to go to a shrine to pray for child's health and happiness on 30th day from brith).

This weekend Koki's down with fever and swollen throat. We are going to stay home and do some craft for Koki's costume for his undo kai (a sports festival). He will be a pirate. We bought glue, origami, ribbons etc. to decorate his costume.

台風 typhoon

はどこへいったのか？
週末にかかる、ひどい雨になる、と連発されたから、出かけられないものと週末はノープラン。一日家にいて久々にちゃんと料理しよっかなー、と土曜は午前オープンとともにスーパーに行き食材を買い込んで来た。

２歳を超えてからめっきり野菜を拒否するようになった息子。
それが近所のお惣菜屋さんのおばさんが作るピクルスだけは「ピキリシー」と食べるので、試しに家でもつくってみた。
さーて、母のピキリシーはいかに。

夜はブリトーwithサルサ、ワカモレの予定が、すっかり１６−１８時で息子と昼寝してしまい、やる気がダウン。緊縮財政月間のはずが、「つまみだけ」と近くのやきとん屋さんにいってしまった。でもやっぱり生ビールは美味しい。週一は必ず飲みたい。

９月５日（明日）リリースのオンラインサービスの準備のため、先々週からずーっと残業続きで、毎日会社を出るのが１９時、１９時半だった。２０時までの延長保育と夕飯を保育園にお願いし、自分と旦那の夕飯だけのため結構お惣菜に頼った。

まだ手が結構かかる子供がいる、就業時間は基本１０−１７時からずらせない、という条件でパートタイムで始まった今回の仕事。始まってみると、やはり仕事というのはそう竹を割ったようにはいかないものだ。まあ、大企業じゃないのだし、出来る人が出来ることをする就業環境には慣れているのだけど、いろいろな犠牲を払い・追って働くなら、やはりもう少し待遇面を見直してもらいたいなーと思う。

いっそのことフルタイムにして、もっと高待遇の仕事を見つけてしまえば、というアイディアもあるが、まあ、そうちょこちょこ動いたところで必ず今より良い環境が約束されるかも分からないし、第一３５歳過ぎると派遣の案件もすっかり減るのでそうやすやす動けるというものでもなく、ひとまずは９月末の契約更新時に待遇面を交渉してみるかな。

今週の残業はいかに。。。

At a local restaurant

Lots of over time work past few weeks and Koki's been spending more time at his day care, sometimes till 8 pm or so. As much as I understand about limited resource at small to mid size company and that each staff needs to do what he or she can do,  with daily house chores and Koki, both Toru and I was starting to wonder if I should look for a part time better paid position, even if it being a dispatch type of work (currently I am on direct - part time contract with full social benefit).

However, moving on as I think is not always the best answer as there is no definite promise of a better land and dispatch jobs decreases as I passed the 35 year line (they say 40 is another age line for jobs), I am starting to think it better to hold the ground.

Typhoon #12 has been on news since Thursday and people have been on its alert for 4 days now with expected heavy rain and strong wind.  It is now Saunday.  Scattered showers but no heavy rain yet.
I bought so much veges and meats for the weekend cook and store plan.  I made home made pickles (carrot, cucumber and raddish) hoping Koki would consume veges, lately he dislikes veges unless it is minced into hamburger or something.

I still have lots of food in my fridge, I need to cook them up by end of today for freezing stock.

Let's hope less overtime this week.
