夏いずこ、、、summer never came

月あたまに息子の小学校で開催された夏祭りの
画像をみつけて暑かった夏の日が遠い昔の記憶。

その後ずーーーーーっと雨、雨、雨（怒）

せっかくのお盆休みなのに、今週ずーっと雨！

せっかく車借りてきたのに、海にも行けない（涙）

今年はもう夏は終わった。

夏休み前半ハワイにいき、戻ってきて学童休んで
好き放題してきたツケがまわり、
息子の宿題が山積…

作文が苦手な息子は避け続けてきた読書感想文に
とうとう取り組むはめになり、週明けから雨も手伝い
ほぼ缶詰め状態で今日夕方やっと仕上げた、
1400文字。

その字のごとく、死に物狂い、で仕上げた。

しかし、読書感想文て一体なんなんだろうか。
私の経験からいくと、よっぽど小論文教えたほうが
役立つと思うのだが、なんで毎年夏でるのだろう。謎。

あとは自由研究。
明日材料集めに奔走します。

私は結局、在宅ワークだけでは心もとないので
月末最終週から仕事再開。
今回は来春までのプロジェクトベースの通訳・翻訳の仕事。
派遣先のプロジェクトが3月納品らしいので、長くても来年3月まで。
終わりが決まってると続けなきゃというプレッシャーが
ないから楽。

Koki finally finished his essay home work. 1400 characters (Japanese).
I truly wished there were no homework during summer break.
He has so much homework that it is like, according to his words,
"regular school days without going to school".
Him writing an essay was like me writing an essay.

We have another big piece of homework untouched.
A science project. Theme does not have to be science related
but something that required thinking and research.

Some parents are smart enough to put their kids in a paid
class to finish this piece of homework, or other creative
parents are creative enough to make this project into a
fun and creative work for their kids and even go as far as to
enjoy doing it themselves with their kids.

Well, we enjoyed Hawaii, enjoyed freedom of not having to do
anything, even work (I only worked remotely during summer),
but did not spend time to find a way to be creative about
our obligations (homework and work).

Now Koki is starting to see end of his fun time, school starts
next Thursday and I am starting to see an end to my freedom.
I am starting a new project, interpretation and translation work
starting from August 28th, project ends in march 2017,
so if all goes well, I will go to an IT company based in Shinagawa
until next March.

Although, summer never came to Tokyo this year (it's been
raining almost all summer), summer is almost gone for us...

We are desperately longing for a blue sky to lighten us.

盗難！Our surboards stolen!!

なんとうちのガレージから知らないうちにサーフボード２本が盗まれていた。。。

ショックすぎる、、、おそらくハワイにいってる間。

気づいたのは先週で、警察に一応届けたが、、、

カリフォルニアの思い出が詰まったボードたち、

見つかりますように。

うろうろしていた台風がやっと通り過ぎたのに、全然夏らしくならない。
今年は戻り梅雨とか、台風で、とかでかーーーっと暑い夏にならない。

どうせ暑いなら晴れてほしい。涼しいのも物悲しい。

昨夜は息子の同じクラスの友達とお姉ちゃんが遊びに来て、夕飯は
持ってきてくれたたこ焼き器でミニオムレツを子供たちが作って食べた。
母二人は二人で発泡酒６缶＋サワー１缶を開けおしゃべり。

そこのおうちは夫婦とも東京の人らしいので、いろいろ地元話を聞かせて
もらったが、
いやー東京育ちってやっぱり違うわ～
と、神奈川県の端っこ育ちの私はいちいち関心してしまった。

ハワイでがっつり休んだくせに、うちは今日から来週日曜までちゃっかり
お盆休みです。

子供の夏休みの宿題が、、、

今日夕方から旦那の実家にいってきます。

Someone stole our boards from our garage while we were in Hawai'i.
We only realized they are gone last week.... we were saving ourselves
from renting a car to go surfing in July since we were going to Hawai'i
and so we did not really pay attention.
We reported to the police.
These boards came to us in California, 
accompanied us to Hawai'i on our way back from California to Japan,
been to many beaches here in Japan with us.........
Hoping they will turn up somewhere...

Typhoon Noru finally went away, and I was so looking forward to a clear
blue sky, even ready to take the heat, but chilly morning, 
cold rain this morning.
Where is summer?
Ever since we came back from Hawai'i, rain, rain, rain. 
We are not feeling summer at all.

Koki's classmate came over with her sister and mom yesterday.
Kids enjoyed making mini omelettes with Takoyaki baker (takoyaki is a 
snack food from western Japan which is a flavored round non sweet pancake
with an octopus in it) while moms chatted.
The mom told me that she also makes small sweet pancakes with fruits in it,
even some dumplings, easy to make, fun for kids.

I think I am going to buy that baking machine pretty soon.

Aside from our Hawaii holiday, we are taking an Obon holiday starting today
till next Sunday. We are going to Toru's parents house tonight where Koki
and Hiroto's cousin will come. A typical Obon holiday.

７月も終わり, entering August

ハワイも今となれば遠い日々（涙）

先週は、
週明けからソーシャルメディア会社の在宅仕事が思いがけず突然スタート。
もとはイギリスらしいのだけど、私に指示をくれるのは東京在住のインド系アメリカ人。
日本国内のおもしろ動画（外国人にとって）を独自のプラットフォームで撮影し、Facebookで流すという事業内容。私の仕事は、というと、スポンサード動画を作ってくれる（というかお金を出してくれる）会社を募る営業メールを日本語で送る、電話で必要ならフォローする作業。
営業なんてやったことないから、先週ふいに問い合わせメールを送っていた地方テレビ局の担当者の方から電話連絡が来た時はドキドキしてしまった。
でも、人間40ん年も生きてると度胸もついて、どうにかなるものですね～

しかし、 どうやって稼いでるのか不思議～と思ったが、バイラルメディアとかスポンサード動画とかコラボ動画とか、今回手伝って初めてちゃんと知った！ソーシャルメディア、奥が深い。なかなか興味深い媒体だ。


ハワイから戻って２週間目。


仕事は開店休業状態なので、頭はまだまだ半分アロハモード。
今朝もお弁当が面倒で上の子は学校の補修（水泳）だけ行かせて学童はお休みにしてしまった。小学校2年生にもなると手もかからず、一緒に帰ってきた同じクラスの子とお昼を食べ、仕事をする私の向こう側で二人でごそごそ遊び、今はyoutube観てる。

IHOP

ハワイから戻る前の日の木曜は、朝ご飯を食べ納めのIHOPでパンケーキを食べ、ピンクライン（バス、JCBを持ってると無料）で途中下車→徒歩でワイキキビーチの端っこで海水浴。

ハワイ島から来てるという１歳６ヶ月の男の子とお父さん（おそらくアメリカ人）と一緒になって、しばらくボールで遊んだりしながら話したが、
お父さんは昔福岡に１週間くらい滞在したことがあって、なんとかっていうオーガニックムーブメントみたいなので有機栽培の農業の施設だかの建設に携わったと行っていた。
今はハワイ島で敷地内に滝があるような所にすんでるらしかった。
東京からは想像できない．．．
すごい世界観の違いだろうなあ。

お昼にはカパフル通り（動物園がある通り）にあるテディーズで2回目のハンバーガーとガーリック＆バターフライを買ってカピオラニ公園で食べ、夕方一度コンドミニアムに戻り残りの買い物に出かけた。

旦那は10年以上薄汚れたカリフォルニア時代からの年季の入った海パンを履いているのだが、今回やっと新調。ボーイズも同じお店の奥にあったので流れで上の子の海パンと帽子も購入。

自分たちの買い物はこれくらい。私の買い物はなし！
これってすごいことじゃないかと自負。誘惑に負けなかった！というか、最近すっかり物欲が鳴りを潜めたので、結構目の保養～というテンションでスルーできた。
でも、とにかく食べたい物は食べた、ビーフステーキ！ステーキはアメリカがやはり美味しいしコスパがグッド♪息子はハンバーガーが気に入ったようで、毎日のよう（！）に食べていた。

帰国して写真を見ていたら、旦那も私も6年前ハワイに行った時とほとんど服が変わってない（笑）人間変われば変わるもんですよ、あんなに浪費家だったのに、今となれば服買うタイミングは「必要」に迫られた時と２～３年に1回くらい「定番」が着古された時。

子供もいるし、住宅ローンもありますからね～当然です！（車のローンはないです）

行けるうちに、友達のいるイタリア国境近いフランスの町も、カリフォルニアの懐かしい町も、そしてハワイも行きたいから、東京の情報過多・物質過多のカルチャーに流されず、しっかりミニマル生活を続行したいと思います！

年取って「やっておけばよかった」と思うことの第１位は海外旅行だそう。

一所懸命仕事して、次は２年後くらいにフランスに行きたいな～
でもハワイの倍だろうな、旅費、、、

Hawai'i days are long gone now.... missing that aloha atmosphere.

Back to humid, hot hot Tokyo city. We are surviving, especially Toru who commutes to work in a long sleeved shirt, long pants (a suit without jacket and tie) and long socks everyday!! He literally snatches his clothes off as soon as he comes home (he is mannered enough to put his worn clothes in a laundry bin) and immediately changes into a short pants and a T-shirt.

I feel so sorry for all these business men in Tokyo who are having to wear suits everyday under this crazy hot weather. Why can't they wear aloha shirt and short pants?

My stay home work suddenly started with a UK based start up social media company who creates short videos which are shared through Facebook. Their videos are mostly about Asia targeted for audiences outside Japan (and non Japanese viewers who reside in Japan).
My task last week was to email or call up a list of potential sponsors who would pay for their featured videos and possibly give them a follow up calls. Out of 10 contacts, only one got back to me with whom I spoke to, a local broadcasting company up in north Japan. He was kind to discuss possibilities but at this point, at the end, they did not have budget for such service.
I never imagined I'd do a sales talk which I never done in the past, strange but in a way interesting.

I am supposed to have a Skype call with a woman running a bilingual education business here in Tokyo this week for another possibly remote work, but so far she has not responded about call schedule so I am waiting to see.
If this opportunity does not come through, I may consider applying for an interpreter position at a small French origin fashion school in Tokyo I found through another online job database. Their wage is surprisingly low, but their location is perfect (15 min bike ride) and their schedule fits my schedule perfectly (3 days a week, 9-13) to balance off with other remote works and translation projects in case they every come in again in near future.

I am seriously looking into managing a work around remote style as much as possible, as I am starting to see that I just work out better freelancing.

Back to travel plan, I hope to visit Charlotte and Alex (and their 2 kids) in France, California to reminisce places we used to go and know, and of course again to Hawai'i to relax, so start saving today!!

帰りのフライトは行きより慣れたせいか、案外スムーズに戻って来た。
着いた当日（先週土曜）は案外気温も低く、よくある空港出たら
ムアーっというのを経験しなかったが、
自宅についてドアを開けたら、密閉して行ったはずのゴミの臭いが
ムアー．．．

旦那は日曜だけ休んで昨日から仕事に。
上の子は昨日は学校の補修と水泳だけ行き、今日から学童に復帰、
下の子は今日から保育園復帰。

私は、というと、土曜午後に「Welcome Home」とだけジャックから
LINEが届いたが、仕事の連絡は特になく、今朝こちらからキャッチアップ
する？とメールしたが返事なし。こりゃ、多分、プロジェクト進捗いっさい
なしOR忙殺されてるか、どちらか、だな。
日曜夜にとあるアメリカのクラシファイドサイト（求人やら売却やらの掲示板）
 の東京版で見つけた在宅求人に応募したら即連絡が来て、
今朝からちょろちょろお仕事開始。
今後どの程度仕事が増えるかは未知数だけど、ひとまず在宅でできるし
様子見。
午後、在宅仕事をしていたら、ピンッとたまに翻訳仕事を回してくれる
近くの出版会社の営業の人から連絡で入り、お仕事受注、A4が2枚程度だけど。

あとはクラウドワークスでもプロジェクトベースの翻訳仕事でも探してみる
かな。

夏は暑いし、ひとまず在宅仕事を見つけ、ローカルにやろうかなと模索中。

So we are back in Tokyo.
We landed last Saturday.
I was getting myself ready for a humid hot weather in Tokyo
as soon as we got out of airport, but surprisingly it was not that
bad. Instead, we were hit by a bad odor coming out of our
storage area on the 1st floor as we entered our house which has
been vacant for last 8-9 days.
Missing the rubbish day, I packed the garbage with 3 bags pretty
tight before we left but the odor still got out.
I did not want to make myself an enemy of the nature and recycle
movement but could not resist to put the rubbish in another layer
of plastic bag... sorry earth.

After coming back from Hawaii, I realize how Japan is behind in
recycling especially around plastics. Around Waikiki, many
shops asked if we needed a bag or provided paper bags instead
of plastic bags (except ABC Mart owned by Japanese...).
Japan is notorious for over packaging goods, which often seem
very beautiful and well mannered but at the same time they are
very very eco unfriendly.

I am hoping coming Olympics (Tokyo) will improve such status.

Everyone is finally getting over jet lag.
Toru went back to work yesterday 9-6, Koki came home after his
summer classes, Hiroto stayed home with me.
Today, everyone went back in a full mode.

I, myself, sitting here at a dining table updating my blog now,
but was working till 30 mins ago.
Jack's job seems slow as he went silent after texting me
"Welcome home" on Sunday.
I found a few job posts online (I have been using this classified site
every since we were in California, they have Tokyo site now) and
one of them gotten back to me to jump start from today.

Another translation project flew in this afternoon from a small, local
publishing company who sometimes give me translation projects,
I have been in touch on and off after Koki was born.

Since summer is soooo hot and humid here in japan, I am planning
to save myself from cruel commute at least during the summer
with some stay home jobs.

余すところ今日のみになったハワイ滞在。

一昨日レンタカーでデイビッドさん宅に朝寄ったら不在。
午後４時頃迄と言われていたので、そこからカイルアにいったら
遅くなっちゃうからとお土産デーにしターゲットにいった。
カイルアに行けなかったのはすごく残念だけど、子供2人抱えて、スケジュールもキツキツでしょうがなかったかな。
夕方デイビッドさん宅に戻って少し待つと下の子のボディとデイビッドさんがサーフィンからちょうど戻ったので７時過ぎまでお邪魔した。
ひさびさのデイビッドさん宅、何も変わらず懐かしかった。
近所に日本人と結婚した人がいるよ、とのことでyukaさんという若そうな奥さんと少し話しをして、子供たちを少し遊ばせて帰って来た。
デイビッドさんの奥さんのジェネファーは波乗りに出ていて残念ながらあえなかった。

Aloha Salad

上の娘のメハナは近くのカハラモールでバイトしてるということだったので、帰りに顔を出したら嬉しそうに、
「来てたの？知らなかった！」
と言ってハグしてくれた。
下の子は男の子だし、恥ずかしそうにノーリアクションだったけど、さすが女の子。
私はそこで夕飯のサラダを買って帰ったが、炙ったマグロ、野菜、イチゴ、マンゴー、アボカドにマンゴービネグレットとヘルシーで日本にない味ですごく美味しいサラダだった。
アメリカはサラダとサンドイッチの種類が豊富で美味しい。

あと、ステーキも。一昨々日、行ったインターナショナルマーケットプレイス跡地のモールの中のEating Houseというロイズ系列のレストランでどでかい＄４５もするリブアイステーキ＆ベイクドポテトを旦那とシェアで食べたが、すごーーーく美味しかった。ちなみに上の息子はマウイオニオンのフライが入った大きなハンバーガーをほとんど食べ、１／４だけそのとき寝ていた息子に持って帰って来たが、こちらもこれまで食べたバーガーの中で一番美味しかった。
おすすめです、Eating House by Roy Yamaguchi。

さてさて、今日は最終日。ビーチの行き納め！
朝ご飯は食べ納めのアメリカのふわふわパンケーキを朝ご飯に近くのIHOPで食べ、その後、 今日はトラムに乗って昨日夕方行ったカピオラニ公園のあたりのビーチにいこうかな。
そして、夕飯はこれまた食べ納めのステーキにしよう。アラモアナSCの中のフードコードのステーキが美味しいとどこかで読んだが、SCじゃなくてバスでどっかまで行ってローカルが食べる定食屋的レストランを探して行きたいなと思う。

Our last day in Hawaii. Its been windy but today it is more windy, maybe surf is high today. We were thinking to ride a tram and go to a different beach from Waikiki that we have been going through our stay, just easy access with a stroller and stuff, but for a change of air, maybe we'll go to Kaimana or a beach near Kapiolani Park.

Yesterday, we went towards sunset time and it was beautiful.
Boys played a catch with their daddy at Kapiolani Park and walked back on the beach, stopped by at Wolfgang Puck Express to eat dinner, walked back home.

We finally found a rental car on Tuesday and visited David and his families. Too bad we did not to get to see Jennifer who was out surfing till late.  Boys played in their yard and had fun with Bodhi and kids in the neighborhood. On our way back we stopped by at Kahala Mall to see Mehana who works at Aloha Salad. I ordered an Ono (tuna) salad with mango vinegrette for to go and it was good.

Today is our last day in Hawaii.
We should make most of it!

Waikiki Beach

ハワイ4日目。
昨日まで時差ボケ抜けきらず遅くまで起きて遅くまで寝ていた。

今朝、私は６時半に起きレンタカー探し。

（昨日ワイキキビーチではレンタカーが火曜まで全て出払っていると言われた）

朝起きた時は鳥がたくさん鳴いてる、町中なのに。

今回のステイは最初から最後までワイキキ。
お山の中のデイビッドさん宅と違いここはなかなかにぎやか。

７時半過ぎに上の子が起きて来たので一緒にランドリーに洗濯に行き今３０分待ち。

下の子がなかなかの魔の2歳ぶり(まだ1歳8ヶ月だけど)を発揮しており手こずる夫、上の息子、私。昨日も海でかぶる用の帽子を探しに行ったモールのそこここで騒ぎ、暴れ、それでも、日本と違って広いし、人は寛大だし、日本ほどせこせこあわあわ対応しなくてよいから気が楽。

6年ぶりのハワイ。
自分がコストセンシティブになったのかハワイの物価が上がったのか、モノの高さにいちいち驚き。インターナショナルマーケットプレイスがなくなりショッピング街になったよ、とジャックから聞いていはいたが、その変わり様に驚き。ただただお店が並び、しかし、こんなにショッピング押しで誰がそんなに買い物するほどお金を持っているのだろうか？

歩いていてる人を見渡してもそんなに紙袋をいくつも下げている人も見ないが。

まだハイシーズン前のせいか、人はそこまでいないワイキキ。

なんとなく、４度目ともなると新鮮味薄れて来たワイキキ。

それでもやっぱりアメリカの風土が肌に合う私はあらゆる意味で楽〜

着いて当日の夕飯は私の中で定番になっているIslandsでナチョスとシーザーサラダ、息子たち２人はキッズミールのハンバーガー（下の子にはミニミニのが出て来た）。2日目朝はカリフォルニアの頃によくいってたIHOPでパンケーキ、夕飯にこれも定番テディーズでハンバーガーとガーリックバターフライ、3日目昼はさすがに近くに出来たmitsuwaでカリフォルニアロールなどの巻き寿司を買って、夜はモールでチャイニーズ（これまた定番のPanda Express）。我ながらなかなかの食生活。ザ旅行。

さて、朝ご飯は何を食べるかな。

This is our 4th day in Waikiki.

I realize it is quite noisy even at night here in Waikiki area.

Last 3 trips, we stayed at David's house in Palolo Valley so it was quiet all the time and especially at night. This time, we spend 8 nights in Wakiki.

We were planning to go see David and his family in Palolo Valley yesterday but it turned out that all rental cars are out till Tuesday at Budget or Hertz unless we go back to airport locations, so I went online to see and found some availabilities at Alamo in Alamoana area from tomorrow.

We went to Waikiki Beach last 3 days and although it is July, the breeze is chilly. 

Hiroto is starting his terrible 2 already,,, 

We are off to get some breakfast now.

今日２１：３０のフライトでハワイにいってきます。
戻りは２２日です。
