Peace

昼寝中 nap time

We stayed home today. Fed bunnies carrots, played around the house.  I tried to take my son to a nearby temple but he came back home telling me "shampi", I could not figure out what he wanted.
His hair getting long, I gave him a haircut. His mood hit the worst of the day here, he hates washing his hair, getting a haircut, brushing his teeth, anything to do with around his face.

After lunch, he fell asleep right away. I took a nap with him. At night I made a pilaf with a rice cooker, turned out pretty good.  Since I got more time, I shall do more cooking.

Dave put on slide show of surf pictures on Mac monitor at night.  At the sight of it, my son yelled out "shampi!".  Uh huh, surfing. He wanted to go surfing this morning!  This is what Hawaii does to kids I guess.

Its been 2 weeks since we got here and its about time we had American beef hamburger.  We might head dow to Kahala Mall tomorrow and eat at The Counter.

Potluck and Kaimana Beach

週末は近所の家のPotluck(みんなで持ち寄りのパーティーのことをそう呼ぶらしい)に参加。

Weekend was full of fun.
On Saturday night we hiked up to a potluck party at neighbor's house.  Many people came and several people brought their guitars and ukeleles to play music outside around camp fire.  Bush and mountain are great for kids, they find so much to play with.  My son fell asleep on our hike down to the house.

On Sunday morning, we headed out to the Cliffs just off Diamond Head to check surf.  Looked real windy.  A wind surfer was having most blast out of the condition.  I can't believe I surfed there last time we came here.  I don't think I have guts to paddle out that far now, too scared.

In the afternoon, we went to Kaimana Beach near Kapiolani park, a nice family beach with surf breaking far out, safe for children.  I saw many paddle boarders with their paddle sticks.  I see more and more of them in Shonan where we surf back in Japan and I have been wanting to try them.

I might take the Bus to Alamoana to look for my surf gears this week.
After seeing surf this morning, something is calling me to go out and surf...

The Bus -

Koki joining guitar + ukelele session

30分くらいバスを待つ間、突然「Do you speak Japanese?」

Today my friend dropped us off in town of Kaimuki on his way to picking up his son.  Kaimuki is closest town from where we stay.  Went to Good Will store hoping to find a baby stroller because I did not bring it, but there wasn't any.  We then walked to a ramen noodle shop because I crave for it, looked at menu, didn't make me that hungry so left.
We walked to Longs Drug store and did little shopping, took The Bus back home. My first time on bus in Hawaii.  Not much different from that in Japan.  Maybe we'll catch bus again to go to Waikiki next time.

Croissant and coffe

My son and I are now at our friend's house in Hawai'i.
Nice break before I get my foot back in next job search phase.

6 hours+ plus flight was not bad with my son sleeping through the flight and I caught some sleep.
My son panicked a little after a while arriving at our friend's house, but kids adjust so quickly, after taking a nap, he was up to playing with kids.
He did even better today.

My grandma passed away a day before yesterday. I found out after I arrived in Hawaii by an email from my sister.  Anyhow I knew this was coming, so I was mentally prepared but still sad.
She was hospitalized on the day before I left for Hawaii.  I took my son to see her as soon as I heard the news. I anyhow felt I had to go see her otherwise I will regret.

This is one of life changing moments for me.
I feel I am here in Hawaii for a reason. I am to meditate, clear mind, focus to know what I need to do when I head back to my home country.

Thanks grandma.

Peace and love

Under this difficult circumstance in Japan, information and thoughts get
tangled up between people, internet, etc. and people are starting to make
harsh judgement on other people's actions or beliefs.
In times like this especially, we need to open our eyes and minds to accept
other people, accept as they are. Everyone is on a different stand point
and to understand what he or she is seeing from there, you cannot figure,
thus you should not judge. You don't have to let them in, you can stand aside, but do not judge or attack. Just let them be.
Eventually everything will fall into places where they belong.

I pray everyday for the people out there who are making it happen for our better future to come home safe and that the day when my son can go out on any given sunny day to play with his friends cheerfully without worry.

I am sure it is not too far and until then I pray and do what I can everyday.

Pray, people, pray for love and peace on earth.

Prayers

All my families, relatives, close friends, accounted for.

I was at my office on 4th floor of 5 story building in Tokyo when the first quake hit at 2:50pm on Friday.

It gradually increased its intensity and lasted several minutes.  I had to hold onto desk legs to stay put.  Quake felt like forever and as it became bigger, building started making big rambling noises and  I thought I was not going to make it, but then realized I need to stay calm and anyhow make it through this to ensure my son's safety.

After the 1st quake, series of small aftershocks followed. Got through to my son's day care by phone, he and his friends/teachers all okay.  Text message comes into my cell from Toru, he is alright.

2nd quake hit us again, smaller than 1st one, but big enough to make us hide under the desks again. After it subsides, another text message comes in from Kohki's friend's mom telling me she picked him up brought him to her house, all safe. Relieved.

Phone line unstable, mobile lines unable to get through, and trains stop.

I waited few hours with my colleagues at the office and left aroun 7:30pm and walked home, got home after an hour or so.

My husband came back with my son in his arms around 9pm.

I am thankful for being alive.  That's all what matters after all.

Prayers go for those up nortth who are deprived of electricity, gas, water, and any means to know whereabouts of their families. I cannot imagine what they are going through.

Gassho (prayers) for those who lost their lives in the quake and tsunami.
