May is one of my favorite months here in Tokyo, less rain (Japan has rain all thru year) , less humidity, much sun, a beautiful season. Lately, I take Kohki to nearby park in the morning and he plays for a couple of hours and come back and have lunch, then a nap, 2.5 hours if lucky. This has become schedule for both of us and I love it. He loves playing in a park with other kids, walking with me. I wish there were no rain season in Japan. With rain, we are forced to stay inside and is no fun. I soon need to start thinking about fun things to do when it rains.
Tonight's picture is with Lea, Kohki's buddy (she's a girl but she's pretty rascal too) who was born just few minutes before Kohki in a next room. They have been together since the birth (well, almost), pretty cool.

Brithday and Celebration

Golden Week vacation in Japan is now over. We had so much fun during the break.
May 1st was Kohki's one year old birthday. We celebrated his brithday along with his first osekku, boy's celebration. Next day we took him to Kodomono Kuni where he ran around bare foot on grass and palyed with animals. Yesterday was Children's Day and so we ate kashiwa-mochi and at night gave Kohki a shobu yu bath (reference:http://japanese-culture.info/keyword/NationalHolidays/kodomo.html).
Such a good holiday.

First surfing of the season, had good time, small surf but no wind and nice weather, a perfect stoke moment. I realized I needed this for sometime. Wishing that I lived by the beach and could surf more often. Dreaming about the day I surf with Kohki. Cheers!

Message
Break free from your inner conflict. Stay with your inner peace.
Do not use your energy and will for confusion in outer world, just focus on the higher up.
This is a message I received today. Very clear and to the point. This cleared out my head and I see clearly now. I can finally let myself free from a big cloud which have been lingering inside me.
Rain in Tokyo finally stopped and late spring is here. I am to enjoy this beautiful season.

Happy Birthday to Me!
I turned 36 last Friday. Almost 40, in Japan, they label you "around 40". If you are 26 and over, then they label you "around 30", especially for women. Anyhow Japanese like to label things.
On Sunday, I went to see a play at a small theater. It was pretty good for 3000 yen. On my way back, I stopped by at Shibuya and did shopping, good wine, good cheese, delicious bread and so forth which I have been staying away from for months.
Once in a while it is good to go out and buy good food and good wine to enjoy.
Coming Saturday Kohki will turn 1! We invited both parents to celebrate with us.

Le Creuset
Today was a hot summer day in Tokyo and I had lunch with my friend in Ebisu, at my favorite Hawai'ian restaurant. I had a bottle of Heineken with a bowl of poke, a marvellous combination. She told me about her new job starting next week and it reminded me of how it is to be working out there, but I can take it easy now.
Toru's mother gave me a green Les Creuset for my birthday. This kitchenware has gained its popularity past few years and many receipe books have been published for it here in Japan. I ddin't dare touch it for its price (expensive) but I am so happy with it now. I cooked coq au vin (with white wine) the other day and it turned out so much better than last time I cooked with a regular pot.

徐々に - it takes time
A woman in our building was in an elevator with me and Kohki in a sling today and asked me,
"So, is he in a day care now?"
and I wondered did I ever tell her about any of it? Probably not but she must have heard from someone, maybe a building manager or something.
I told her, "nope, I didn't find a job at the right timing, so we didn't put him in a day care."
She replied, "oh, but that's probably best for him, no?".
I hear this alot from women who work and have thier kids in a day care. I always wonder what they feel when they say that because I am not in their shoe so I can't imagine.
To me hearing this sort of makes me feel like I lost a battle for some reason.
Then I asked myself, why do I feel like I lost a battle? A battle of what? I realize I didn't lose against anything but I feel I missed the other opportunity I might have acquired if I pursued my career.
I made a decision to stay with Kohki until he is older and this was surely my own decision. Noone pressured this on me, but I realize I cannot brush off the other possibility I might have had right away. It just takes time to fully understand the meaning of my decision and fully live it.
Today's video is Kohki walking at a park nearby. He is getting better at walking with his shoes on.
