最近、今年初の秋刀魚を食した。
１匹150円、お店によっては250円のとこもあり
今年は漁獲量が少ないせいらしい。
台湾、ロシア、中国が公海でがばーっと持って行って
しまうのがかなり影響しているようですが、
なんだかいろいろなことが世知辛い世の中になって
きましたねえ。
なんにつけても鈍感力勝ち、というか、
やったもん勝ち、というか、
ますますそうゆう世情になってきてると感じるのは
自分が歳とったせいでしょうか？
とはいえ、日本人はマグロ食べ過ぎだという話もあるので
あまり大きな声で文句もいえないのでしょうか。
先週は息子の運動会で、炎天下の中朝からいってきた。
息子も来年は小学校。今の幼稚園の仲間と一緒も
あと半年だなあ、と実感。
シルバーウィークに釣りにいってから、
なんとなくまた三浦半島に釣りにいきたいなーと思って
ます。あのぼーっと待つ感じがよい。
来夏にはキャンプがてら川釣りもしてみたいな。
さばいたりせず、洗って塩降ってファイヤーで食べられる
鮎とかイワナとかが釣りたいけど、
となると水がきれいなところじゃないと駄目だろうから、
結構上流にいかなきゃいけないのかと想像し、
そうなるとキャンプも重装備かな、とか考えるだけで
ウキウキする。が、うちは旦那も息子も虫が駄目。
あと、前々からやってみたいのはカヌー。
葉山あたりの波のない海でやってみたい。
カヌーで釣りとか出来たら楽しそう。
Pacific saury is a fish of autumn which starts to
appear at fish market as early as end of August,
but in local fish shops, usually we start seeing them
in September.
This year, its price seems to have gone up and they
say it is due to big typhoon hitting Japan this year but
also countries like Russia, China and Taiwan
catching the fish way out in the ocean where there is no
rule about commercial fishing.
Just like tuna, it used to be that only minority of
world population appreciated and ate it, pacific saury
has always been a popular fish in Japan since we don't
know when but in China and Taiwan, it is only just recently
they started appreciating it in autumn due to a trend of
Japanese "wa" food culture in those countries.
North Pacific Fisheries Commission which is mainly lead by
Japan is now trying to talk to other countries from ocean
resource management point of view.
Speaking of fish, fishing.
Ever since we made 2 trips during Silver Week in September
to enjoy fishing, I have been wanting to go back,
especially towards an open sea (not Tokyo Bay).
Being near the water looking out to the ocean with a fishing
rod with total empty mind is so peaceful and meditating.
I enjoyed it, though, one drawback about ocean fishing is
you need to cure it which is a work by itself.
Next summer, I am hoping we go up in the woods and mountain
to fish "ayu (sweetfish)" or "iwana (mountain trout)" which
can go straight on fire after washed and salted, but these
types of fish only live in a very clean water, so likely we
need to go up the stream which may make camping a
bit of work.
Eventually, I hope to learn to canoe in a calm water like
Hayama (near my hometown) and fish octopus or squid
from it (they can be washed with salt to get rid of slimyness
and then can go straight onto a BBQ).

今日は5連休最終日、朝から晴天。
父子未だ就寝中。
休みとなるとすっかり宵っ張りになり
朝がずれ込む我が家。
今夜は早く寝なければ！
この連休は初っぱな２日は地元の祭り。
５つの町会が合同でやり、
すぐ近くの商店街で５つの神輿が集合する
様子はなかなか華やか。
祭り１日目息子は山車の後ろに連なり、
２日目は去年同様三本締めに参加の後、
稲穂をもらってきた。
小学校にあがる息子も来年からは山車ではなく
子ども神輿が担げる。
３日目月曜は午前息子のサッカーで
午後旦那の秋冬支度の買い物、
４日目昨日は羽田空港近くの公園で、
頭上に戻って来る飛行機を拝みながら釣り。
コハダが一匹釣れたが、午後からいったので
自前はそれだけ。お隣で釣っていた人から
メジナを２匹もらって帰って来て、
YouTube片手に切れないうちの包丁で格闘。
すごく不格好な三枚下ろしをし、
フライにした。
次回はリールを買って遠くに投げてクルクルしながら
釣ってみたいという話に。
あとは川上流で鮎を釣りたい、美味しいから。
来年こそ久々にキャンプかな〜
休みも続けて5日あるとすっかり休めた感じがして
満足。次の秋大型連休は１１年後だとか。

We ate well, slept well, played well.
Last weekend was a festival of our neighbor 5 chokai.
Koki paraded with a float, we saw festival close with a
3 bonjime clap and got a souvenir of ears of rice.
This is one of the highlights of autumn.
Yesterday, we went out to Tokyo Bay for fishing at a
park near Haneda Airport.
We saw a city of Tokyo including Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree Tower
on our left side, air planes landing to Haneda Airport above
us and big tankers passing by in front of us, quite a scenery.
Today again is sunny.
We talked about washing Toru's surfboard case, cleaning out
a storage room on the 1st floor, wardrobe change etc., but
I think we should go out to make best of this great weather
on the last of 5 day weekend!

秋海と祭り、autumn is in the air
お盆の後いっきにめっきり涼しくなり、
雨が長く続き、秋が来た。
先々週の週末は晴れたので少し大きめのワンボックスカーを
カーシェアで見つけ、サーフボードも積み込んで海に行った。
海もすっかり秋。
今シーズンもう一度くらい行きたいけれど、
ウェットスーツがない息子は厳しいかな、、、
毎回海にいく、と告げると、
「えーー海、いきたくなーい」
という割には、いざ海にいくとエンジョイしまくり
全く帰りたがらない６歳の息子。
伊豆旅行でちょっと激しい波にも慣れたのか、
精神的免疫がついてきたのか、
前回は沖で波待ちする旦那の方に向かって
ずんずん歩いていったので驚いた。
が、その後、サーフボードで手前の波に
押してもらって、
よくあるビギナーあるあるの
ボードの前の方に乗り過ぎて滑り落ち、
運悪くボードの下に入ってしまい
アワアワしていた。
海は荷物が多い。
テント、チェア、ブギボー、サーフボード、
クーラーバッグ、浮き輪、タオル、お弁当、
などなどで、来年はこれが欲しい↓

秋は祭りの季節。
先週末は駅の向こう側がお祭りで、大きなアーケード
商店街も大にぎわい。
今週末はうちのちかくでお祭り。
息子もお菓子引き換えリボンをもらったので
山車の後ろに連なる予定。
Autumn has already come around end of August
and since then it has been raining a lot in Japan.
Last week we saw enormous amount of rain
passing through east Japan and it left a serious
after effect on several places along the pacific
coast side leaving 15 people still unfound.
An earthquake of intensity 4 with epic center
in Tokyo Bay hit Tokyo early morning this week
and yesterday Mount Aso, an active volcano
in South Japan erupted.
Japan is a land of volcanoes and earthquake,
which was once again reminded by those incidents.
September is a month of shrine festival and there is
one every weekend. This week is our neighbor area's
turn. Koki will parade with one of the floats.
Snack will be given to kids after the parade.
We are hoping to go to the beach one more time
this season. We should have gotten Koki a wet
suit..

伊豆、trip to Izu
楽しみにしていた伊豆旅行に出かけて来ました！！！
伊豆半島の突端に近い、下田から車で少し南下した
ところにある吉佐美大浜。
砂浜は白く、水は透明、人もまばらでのんびりの
ファミリービーチで居心地・景色は格別。
初日は風が強く、満潮の海に散歩、宿の裏の川でカニ釣り。
２日目は午前中からテントを張り、
昼だけ歩いて３０秒の宿に戻り戻った以外は
ずーーっと海にいた。
３日目の午前中の干潮の前には旦那も少しサーフィンが
出来て、雨が降り出したので正午前には東京に向けて出発。
滞在中は昼は吉佐美大浜、夜は下田まで車で出て
新鮮で美味しい魚の夕飯。
初日は地元のお寿司屋さんで青のりも味噌汁付きの
握りで贅沢に、２日目夜は伊豆太助という地元の
チェーンの回転寿しで、３日目帰りの昼には
下田漁港で金目鯛の煮付けを食べたが、
やっぱり海の近くはどこに入っても魚が美味しかった！
伊豆といえば金目鯛、お寿司も煮付けも天ぷらも全て
美味しかった。
それにしても、ずーっと行ってみたかった伊豆の海。
やはりとってもよくて、特に吉佐美大浜は昔から外国人が
多いらしく、宿にも海にも外国人ファミリーが多く、
周辺にはキャンプ場があり、宿は少なく、
のんびりした日本ぽくないビーチエリアだった。
夏の終わりだったのも手伝ってか、
湘南のようなワサワサ感が全くなく、
空いていて、落ち着いたファミリービーチで居心地がよく、
欲を言わなければ波乗りも出来るし（混んでない！）
もうハワイまで遠出しなくても
ここで夏のバケーションはいいかな、という感じ。
泊まった宿もなかなかよかった。
来年また是非行きたい。
We came back from Izu trip on Saturday.
We arrive in Kisami Ohama Beach in Thursday afternoon
around high tide with choppy surf, so we walked around
the beach, chased surf, and did little bit of crab fishing
in a river that ran behind a B&B we stayed at.
On 2nd day, we put up a tent on the beach and stayed
there all day except for lunch time when we came back
to the B&B to eat.
On 3rd day, we went towards low tide, surfed a bit,
Koki played on a shore and we left for Tokyo because
it started raining around noon.
Izu is famous for fresh seafood, especially a snapper
called "Kinmedai (gold eyed snapper" and we had it
as sushi, tempura, and cooked in a sweet soy sauce
with rice, all plates very fresh and tasty.
Our B&B served good breakfast (western style) but
we figured for dinner we drove to nearby town to
enjoy fresh seafood, Japanese style.
Kisami Ohama Beach area seems to attract many
non Japanese travelers as well, and we saw many
non Japanese families and couple on beach and
at the B&B, which gave the whole area an atmosphere
of being somewhere outside Japan, which was a nice
side kick to our trip.
We definitely would like to come back for a summer
trip next year again!

老いも若きも

暑さ寒さも彼岸まで。
そんなこと行っているのもあと数週間か、
と思うと、
いっそこの暑さを満喫しなければという
焦りも出て来た。
１年ぶりに息子の従弟たちが帰国したので
先週土曜から息子を連れて帰省し、
土曜夕方から昨日夕方までよく喧嘩し
よく遊んだ模様。
総勢大人が６名、子ども４名の大所帯を
（旦那の弟夫婦と姪っ子もいれると大８名、子5名
だが彼らは週末だけで帰宅した）
切り盛りする義母がかなり大変そうで、
もともと身体が丈夫なほうでもないし、
少し心配になった。
洗濯機一日４、５回回し、２階まで運び・干し、
取り込み・畳み、
それに加え食事の支度、後片付け、、、
全て１０名分！
かなりの体力消耗が予想され、義母はまだ６０台、
とはいえ、
次回からは外注も考えた方がいいんじゃないかなー
（東京の場合はファミリーサポートとかが安価で頼めるが
横浜はどうだろうか）
と嫁の私は手伝いながら思った。
あとは男子供も人数に入れて若きレベルで分担、か。
親はいつまでも若いと思いがちだが、
やはり自分と同じように年をとっていくものですから。
うちの実家には先々週海の帰りに寄ったのだが、
母は相変わらず元気でよく出かけたりしているようだが
父がすっかり老人然としてしまって、
あっちが調子悪い、こっちが調子悪いと家に籠りがちの
様子。母の負担も大きく、
今月はそれでも伯母と２泊で立山連峰に旅行に行く
計画らしいが、
それ以外の時は父がすぐふにゃふにゃするのに付き合わ
され、かなりゲンナリの様子。
介護、まではいかなくても、
うちの両親みていると、健康な人が健康を崩した人の
面倒を見る場合、前者も引きずられ共倒れになるという
構図も分かるなーと思う。
うちの父をみていると、つくづく男の人ってのは女に
比べて精神的に弱いなーと思う。
年をとって自分の思い通りにならない部分も出てくるし
具合が悪くなることもあるだろうけれど、
大病したわけでもないし、
介護を要する身のわけでもない、
せっかくその年まで生きているのだから、
ある程度諦め、割り切って生活を出来る範囲で楽しまないと
生きている意味がないじゃないか、
と苛立ちを覚えてしまうが、
年代問わず心因性の問題っていうのは難しいのでしょうね。
日本はこれから超高齢化社会が本格化する、
いろいろ問題山積ですな。

お盆、OBON
夏だ！海だ！行って来ました、先週末。
いつも通り行く前は行き渋った息子も
帰る頃には帰りたくないくらい楽しんだ。
戦後70周年、６日はNHKの広島平和式典を
生まれて初めてテレビで見た。
戦争は絶対いけない、でも、周辺国が武装化し
読めなくなる中、何がベストなのかということ
を論議するのは難しいな、とつくづく思う。
そして、終戦記念日の後はお盆。
うちも旦那が来週半ばまで休みなので、
香港から戻っている息子の従弟に会いに今日
夕方から旦那の実家に移動予定。
昨日は37度になったらしいが、
そんな中、ランドセル巡りをしてきた。
最初は共済組合がやっているのを見に行ったけど
話にならないくらいデザインが悪かった。
安いわけでもないのに変なポイントデザインとか
模様が入っていて、ただ黒がない。
その後BICカメラを見に行ったが数も少なくX、
西武デパートのランドセル売り場は分け分からない
ブランドものなだけで、やはりいまひとつ。
結局、息子がテレビCMで気になっていた
フィットちゃんのショールームでみたものが一番
シンプルなので、それにする予定。
これは一見分からないのだけど、ランドセルの
フタのフチに反射素材が使用されていて
夜車のライトで光るらしい。

Tokyo is seeing a very very hot summer this
year. They say the temperature should lower
by 2-3 degree from today.
It has been 70 years since Japan ended WWII.
I watched a peace ceremony taking place in Hiroshima
on August 6th on TV.
There is a big controversy in Japan about prime miniter
Abe's proposing to change the conception of National
Safety Act to allow Japan army to extend its field of
activity under emergency.
People say this shows that Japan is gearing toward
militant stance once again forgetting about the damage
and outcome of WWII, but with change of power
balance with surrounding countries, it is hard to determine
what is best.
Of course, war is not an option, but when we think about
how to defend ourselves and our friend countries
when something happens, it is not an easy decision to make.
Yesterday, Koki and I went on a Randoseru hunting.
Randoseru is a school back pak, a Japanese standard.
Every child has one and a summer previous to a child's
entry into an elementary school is a big season for kids
and parents.
There are many makers who make them, so many families
go to several showrooms, try on and decide.
Recently this backpak is becoming popular amongst
foreigners and they also sell them at duty free shops for
tourists.

Many of us Japanese are entering into OBON from this
weekend and people take a break from work.
Toru is off till Thursday next week and Koki is looking
forward to seeing his cousin who came back from Hong
Kong for the summer this week.

夏休み突入、into a summer break
気づいたら今日から８月、夏まっただ中！
最近は１日３回くらい玄関前と前の道に水まきを
しているが、ほんの何分ですぐに乾いてしまう。
先週末、旦那の両親の用事にくっついて横浜みなとみらい
に出かけ、
夜遅く東京に戻ったらムーっと暑さが充満していて
つくづくヒートアイランド現象を実感。
私が小さかった頃は、鎌倉の実家はエアコンはなく、
昼はまあ暑くなったが、
北の玄関を解放しておくと涼しい風が入って来たし、
朝夜は涼しくなり普通に暮らせていたが、
10年だかそれより少し前くらいにエアコンが各部屋に
設置され、
母が鎌倉も今となれば昼は暑くてエアコンが
ないと無理だと言っていた。
温暖化、ですかね。
それにしても都心はほんっとーに暑くて、
昼間はどこに赴いても照り返しで、木陰の変わりに商店街
という様相、外に出る気も起こらず、
今週はドバッと翻訳仕事が入ってしまったのも手伝い、
昼間はほとんど家にいた。
息子は最近登場したApple TVで大好きなYouTuberの動画
をウキウキみていたが、
どう考えても目にも健康にも悪いだろうな、と思い、
90分ごとに休憩させ、仕事に合間を作り、
図書館にかりだし、
食事の買い物に付き添わせ、
食事の支度の手伝いをさせ、
と苦肉の策をとってきたが、
一昨日幼稚園の友達がカブトムシのオスをくれたので
がぜん夏休みモードになり、
昨日は近くの公園に午前から午後過ぎまでメスを探しに
出かけた。
以前は林業試験場だっただけあって鬱蒼とした公園は
一歩踏み入れると少し涼しかった。
息子より小さな子達が遊ぶジャブジャブ池を通り過ぎ
亀のいる池の横を通ったらトンボが飛んでいたが、
トンボは捕まえられなかった。
その後、雑木林をぐるりとしたが、
カブトムシは夜行性なので見当たらなかった。
その後、
休憩している時にお散歩していた男の人から思いがけず
カブトムシをもらい、見てみたらメス！
超ラッキー！
公園の別の場所で他の人に、卵を産ませたいならチップを
たくさん敷いた方がよい、と言われ、
細かくなった枯れ木を集めたり、カブトムシが昇るための
朽ち木を探したりした。
やっぱり子どもには自然体験てマストだよなーと思う。
私は山に囲まれた住宅地で育ったから
当たり前のように土や木が周りにあった、
しかも海も少し先にあったから、夏父が休みの時は毎日
海にいった。
息子が育つのは都会で周りは建物ばかりだけど、
少し行った所にこの鬱蒼とした公園があって救い。
あとは海、だけどこれはイージーアクセスは無理。
でも親が２人とも海が好きだし、夏少し前頃から
秋入り口くらいまではどんどん連れて行くように
して、どうにか自然の中で行動させたいと
思っている。
何度かサーフィンに連れて行ってもらったりした
知り合いがたまに関わっている団体を思い出し
久々にサイトを見たら、
週末海体験は小学校からとのことなので、
来年夏から参加させようかな、と思っている。

「波とあそぼう葉山」とか、もう、聞いただけで
私がウキウキしてしまう。
それから、横浜のどろんこ保育では、小学校から
夏の５日だか長野キャンプを開催しているらしく、
35,000円と少し高いのだけれど、
余力があったらこっちも参加させようかなーと
思ってる。
自分の小さい頃の原体験に自然が大きく関わっている
私にとって、やはり息子の原体験にも同じものが
不可欠と思う、
これも一種のエゴですかね。。。
息子はまだプールでは浮き輪、
海では波を怖がりライフジャケット着用でブギボー
だけど、
11歳で海に入らなかった ハワイのデイビッドさんの
愛娘が14歳でお父さんと毎朝波乗りに出るくらい
海大好き少女に育っているのを見るにつけ、
継続は力なり？と思ってしまう。
日本は山が多い国だから、山もまた格別でしょうねー
Koki went off bit scared to a sleep over with his friends on
a school event, came home next day happy and exhausted.
Next day he started his long summer break.
Japanese schools do not offer summer schools,
and especially Koki still in a kindergarten, he will stay
home with his mom through the summer until September.
A 24 page financial related trasnlation (English to Japanese)
came in on Monday and suddenly I had to wear my
translation/concentration hat.
Koki was happy to watch his favorite YouTube channels
through Apple TV we recently bought, but I was
worried about the impact of it (on eyes and brain),
so I made a 90 min break rule for both myself and Koki
to get away from me-PC, Koki-TV.
A 6 year old boy cannot play by himself much and
he requires his mom's involvement often,
so easiest thing to do is to go out, but
central Tokyo hitting over 95F during day time almost
everyday with much humidity,
we refrained from going outside, to a concrete jungle
when the sun is up high.
Instead, we went to a shopping arcade to do a grocery
shopping for lunch and dinner, come home and cook
together, or go to a library where air conditioner is on.
On Thursday late afternoon, Koki's school friend
came over to give him a male beetle.
Suddenly Koki turned on his nature mode and wanted
to go find a partner for his beetle.
So, yesterday, after breakfast when the sun is still
not so high, we went to a nearby big park.
We saw blue dragonflies fly around a wet area but
could not catch them, moved on to where big trees
were, walked around quite a bit until it was getting
hot even in tree covered park where it is always
a degree or two lower than outside city.
Koki and sat down to take a tea break and a man
walked up and handed Koki a beetle, and it was
a female! Perfect. Koki was so excited.
We were advised by another passer by that for
beetles to bear eggs, we should put lots of wood
chips so they can bury them, so we gathered
wood chips from the ground, also few pieces of
decayed tree branches for beetles to clime.
I think it is very important for young children to
experience the nature, though for Koki, it is
often a nearby big park, at least we have that
park with lots of trees and greens, bugs and
birds. During summer, we take him to the beach
as often as possible so he can feel the power of
the ocean, another nature. Then during winter,
we try to go up to a snow mountain at least
once during the season for him to
play with snow.
I was lucky enough o have both mountain and
beach near me growing up and
though Koki doesn't have exactly the same environment
as my youth,
I hope to replicate as much as possible.
From next year, we can put him a children camp
to the beach over weekend or to a mountin during
summer.
I wish I were a kid once again so I can join them.
