Waikiki, day 2

昨日は日の入りをめざしワイキキビーチへ向かう。
途中ロイヤル・ハワイアン・センターでフラショーをやっていたのでしばらく立ち見。
その後ホテルとホテルの間を抜けビーチへ。日が傾いているせいか肌寒い。裸足に砂も少しひんやり。それでも水着で泳ぐ人、沖で波に乗る（＆乗ろうと）する人多し。
不思議とアジア系の人の多くは長袖を羽織り、それ以外の人たちは水着、タンクトップだった。アジアンの私は半袖できてしまったことを悔やんだ。帰りに近くのスーパーで食材を買い帰宅後、牛肉を醤油でいため、サラダとご飯で簡単に夕飯を済ませた。
今朝はハワイアンスイートブレッド、卵、ソーセージ、マンゴーなどで朝食を済ませ、バスでワードセンターにいった。ちょっと用事があったのだけど、それが済んだらもう何もやることがない地味なSCで、BORDERSで本をみたものの、品揃えが少なく、お昼に回転寿司に寄り、アラモアナSCまで歩いてトロリーに乗せてもらって（ツアーじゃないのに、洸希を抱っこだったからか親切に乗せてくれた）帰って来た。
昼寝後、ワイキキビーチに散歩に出かけ、帰りにインターナショナル・マーケットプレイス内のyummy Korean BBQでまたもやカルビセットを買い帰宅。お肉たくさん食べて満足。野菜が足りないのか口内炎ができた・・。
明日はせっかくだし午前はにワイキキビーチで息子を遊ばせる予定。

yummy Korean BBQ

Yesterday, we went to see sunset on Waikiki Beach.  Being April, it is still bit chilly after sunset, I should have brought my jacket or sweater.  Did some grocery shopping and whipped up beef/ salad/ rice dinner.  My son fell asleep little after 8PM.

Today we took #20 bus to Ward Center where I had some errands to do, but after that there was not much to see there, books at BORDERS did not interest me, so we had sushi lunch at Genki Sushi, walked to Alamoana SC to catch bus.

We missed #8 bus bound for Waikiki and a trolley bus driver kindly offered us a ride back to Royal Hawaiian Center, one block from our condo.  

After taking a nap, we again walked to Waikiki Beach, too early for sunset but warmer than yesterday.  We played by the shore a bit, got our feet wet.  Walking back to the condo, stopped by at International Marketplace to pick up some Korean BBQ for dinner.  Because of his ear infection, my son is told to refrain from dairy or oily food, so rice, tofu and veges for him.  I enjoyed beef Kalbi, onl y $11 for 6 pcs of Kalbi beef with rice, 4 side dishes.

Tomorrow I will take my son to the beach to play by the water under warm sun, will go before it gets too hot to avoid sunburn.

In Waikiki

ワイキキに今日午後移動。格安でみつけたコンドミニアムに３日間ステイし、ワイキキ生活を満喫する予定です。部屋にネットがなく向かいのマックかスタバにいかないとできないのでUPはそんなに頻繁にはできないかも。またお山の友人宅に木曜に戻ったらまとめてします！

My son and I moved to Waikiki condo from today, we will stay here for next 3 days enjoying the extravagant Waikiki life!! Since I did not pay for internet access in the room, my upload will be limited. I will do update when we get back to our friend's house on Thursday.

中耳炎 - ear infection

Outside 寿司一番 Sushi Ichiban, Kaimuki

昨夜は友人・下の子と一緒に近場カイムキにある寿司一番で夕飯を食べた。息子にKeiki Mealというお楽しみプレートみたいなのを頼んだら、照り焼きチキン、餃子、天ぷら、ドレッシングたっぷりのサラダ、白米、デザートにアイスという超アメリカンなジャパニーズディナーが出て来た。照り焼きはアメリカ人好みに甘め。結構美味しかった。私はアメリカに来たらチャンスあらば食べる寿司ロールを２種注文。

しかしこの店、メニューにカレーからラーメンまであって、「寿司屋となのるなよ！」とツッコミを入れたくなった。ありゃ定食屋だな。

今朝はあまりの不機嫌さに根を上げ、とうとうアラモアナ・ショッピング・センター裏のビルに入っている小児科にいってきた。診察の結果、中耳炎。熱も咳もこのせい。日本のかかりつけ医からもらってきた抗生物質を昨日から飲ませ始めたことを伝えたら、続けて様子見てくださいとのこと。

医者いくの我慢する必要なかったな。子供のことはその母親が一番分かってるのだし、周りがどう言ってもやはり母親としての自分の判断で動くべきだなと思った。

行きも帰りもタクシー。やはり具合が悪い息子に１時間以上のバス乗車は酷だし、保険で下りるから。帰りは目の前のモールのフードコートで欲していた肉を食べたく、Korean BBQでKalbiプレートを買って食べた。息子は付け合わせの豆腐、卵焼きと白米少し。私はやっぱりベジタリアンにはなれないな〜肉美味しいもん！！

ついでにマフィン２個、シナボンも買ってきた。健康食が続き、尚更欲していたせいで何倍も美味しく感じたシナボン、日本になくなってしまったのが悔やまれる。

Good Fridayで休日のせいか、モールは人で溢れていた。たくさんのお店が並ぶ中、ランチを食べ、辛うじてLUSHに寄って石けんシャンプー、顔用スクラブだけ買って帰って来た。アメリカのシャンプー合わないのか、頭が痒くなる。

I finally took my son to a local pediatrician. I called a cab to pick us up and took a cab back from nearby shopping mall.  Just could not let my sick son sit in the bus over an hour.  Insurance will pay for them.

As soon as doctor looked into his ears, he said cough and fever are not from cold but from ear infection.  Continue giving him anti-biotics his pediatrician in Japan prescribed him and watch how he does.

After the doctor's appointment, we went to nearby Alamoana mall and had Korean BBQ plate lunch, something I have been craving for past few weeks, beef.  I enjoyed it very much where my son had little bit of side dishes tofu, egg and some rice.  

I managed to stop by at 2 more places before leaving. Cinnabon, I miss this since they closed down stores in Japan a while back.  Lush, to buy natural soap (shampoo) for my itchy and irritated (water? shampoo? dunno) sculp and facial scrub.

熱、咳 - Cold?

昼間はよいのだけど・・・

ハワイに到着してから良く遊び、良く食べ、良く寝ていた息子が、２週目を越え少しダウン。日曜家に戻ってから咳をし始め、月曜夜には熱。そこから咳がひどくなり、昨日おとといは夜中起きるほど。今日にいたっては昼間も機嫌が悪く、機嫌良く遊んだのはほんの少しの間。

二晩熱にうなされ、日本で聞いたこともないような音の咳をされると海外にいる煩わしさを感じるのは否めない。一応海外保険に入って来たので小児科のアポを明日の正午にいれた。寝る前咳と熱のお薬（日本のかかりつけからもらってきた）を飲んで８時過ぎには寝、何度か寝汗ぐっしょりで起きたものの熱は下がらず咳で夜半過ぎにまた起き出した。

具合の悪い子供を抱えての３０分坂＋固いシートの揺れるバス乗車はかなり疲れそう。元気ならそれもまた経験、楽しめるのだけどね。

月曜夜はまた友人の実家に行き、彼のお姉さん＆その旦那さんと夕飯を食べた。友人はほとんどNGな日本語も、お姉さんは結構喋れて、しかも一番上だから両親にも近かったせいか、かなり昔のことを覚えていて、日本から離れたハワイという土地でゼロから築き上げた日本人たちの生活、習慣、その変化などを聞くのはとても面白かった。

喋っている言葉は英語でも、なぜか根底に流れるものに親近感を覚えた。

今週末はイースターだそうで、友人の家族・親戚と朝ご飯に集まるそう。

My son has been playing, eating, and sleeping well ever since we got here on March 31st, but from this Sunday night he started coughing and by Monday night he had fever. He suffered 2 nights with fever and bad cough. Today he only happily played for a little while and I had to hold him otherwise.
We paid for his travel insurance, so I might take him to a local pediatrician if fever does not subside tomorrow morning.

Getting into my last half of stay,  I started thinking about my life back in Japan.  I wish I could stay with my son and play, go to the beach etc. but life is different there and I am sure I will have different idea once I go back.

日曜はダイヤモンドヘッドに海水浴にいった。
満点の快晴の中、海水浴の家族連れ、サーファーが集まっていた。その後もシャンピを連発する息子は波打ち際でブギボーに揺られたり、子供たちと砂の要塞を作ったりして遊んだ。ハワイに着いてから運動量が増え、体力がついたようで、帰りのくるまでちょこっと寝ただけで夜は２山向こうのばあば（ハワイでもばあば、は、ばあばらしい）のお家に夕飯をごちそうになりいった。

親戚の子供たちも来ていて、そこでまた走り回ったり、ボールで遊んだり大満喫。良い週末だった。

私も６人のいとこたちに囲まれ海水浴、花火大会、お泊まり会などにぎやかに育った。核家族化する昨今の東京、どうにかここのように常に大人・子供に囲まれた生活がまた復活できればいいのに、と思案する今日この頃。

Baba's house

Sunday, we went down to Diamond Head. A nice hot sunny Sunday, many families and surfers were out.  Some nice waves breaking, we surfed last time we came, no surfing yet this time.

More I look at surfs more they look surfable.  I just need to wait until the time is right.
My son had fun riding a boogie board around the shore (he sit, I push, he gave up after getting wipe out 2 times) and played with sand.  At night we went to their grandma's house and had dinner with their cousins and families.  My son had so much fun playing with them.  Nice way of raising kids, just like the old days.
I wish this was possible in Tokyo, but as families live apart from each other, hard to do. Such a shame.

やっぱりハワイは海！

朝ご飯後、駄目もとで「波乗り同行できないかな？」と聞いたらOKが出たので、息子と同行した。
場所はポートラック、高級住宅街ハワイカイの近く。大きな奇麗な家並みの間の小道を抜けると誰もいない小さな砂浜に出た。ブレークはハワイらしく沖の沖。私たちが砂浜で遊ぶ間２、３人入っていき上がっていった。

沖にはボートで来ているスクールらしき人たち、ウィンドワーフィン、カイトサーフィンも見える。パノラマの海と山並みの視界、途中から日が出て温かくなり、砂浜はゴミもなく砂は白く海水はクリア。

言葉は必要なし、ただただ神様、皆様、ありがとう、心から感謝の意を海に向かって捧げた。

Hawaii is all about beach and I felt this strongly again today.

After breakfast, my son and I went down to a beach with Dave who was heading out to surf. Through infamous rich area of Honolulu, Hawaii Kai, we came to Portluck. Through an alley, we came out to a small beach with no one out. Dave paddled out way way out to the ocean, a far surf break. Some surfers, wind surfers, kite surfers and a boat of surf school guys out.
Looked nice after rain and an onshore wind died down.

I played on a small sand beach with my son. Clear water, sky, white sand, no trash (so many on Shonan beach where we surf in Japan) and I just prayed to god, everyone, to whomever that is making this possible right at that moment for us to be there.

I love ocean, I am for the thousand time reminded that if I had the ocean in front of me everyday, I won't need anything else in my life.

昼寝中 nap time

今日は一日家でゆっくりすることに。

午前は外にいるウサギに人参をあげ、家の周りで遊んだ。近くのお寺に行こうと歩き出したものの、「シャンピ」といいながら家に戻ってしまった。シャンピをしばらく連発していたけど、意味分からず・・・
いつも家の主人が波乗り＆幼稚園のお迎えに出るタイミングで一緒に出かけ途中で落としてもらうのが、今日は見送り。「今日はいかないよ」の言葉に号泣。
長くなってきた息子の髪を切った。これで機嫌が最悪になり、お昼を食べるまでずっと不機嫌。昼食後すぐ久々の昼寝。私も便乗。

夜は奥さんが仕事のミーティングのために夜６時半にまた出るということで、ピラフ風炊き込みご飯を作った。夕食時、モニターのサーフィンの画像のスライドショーを見て息子が「シャンピ」と呟いた。「！」なるほど、シャンピとはサーフィンだったんだ！朝息子はサーフィンに行きたいといってたのか・・・すごいぞハワイ。

あー肉食べたい！明日はカハラモールのThe Counterまでいってハンバーガー食べようかな。

We stayed home today. Fed bunnies carrots, played around the house.  I tried to take my son to a nearby temple but he came back home telling me "shampi", I could not figure out what he wanted.
His hair getting long, I gave him a haircut. His mood hit the worst of the day here, he hates washing his hair, getting a haircut, brushing his teeth, anything to do with around his face.

After lunch, he fell asleep right away. I took a nap with him. At night I made a pilaf with a rice cooker, turned out pretty good.  Since I got more time, I shall do more cooking.

Dave put on slide show of surf pictures on Mac monitor at night.  At the sight of it, my son yelled out "shampi!".  Uh huh, surfing. He wanted to go surfing this morning!  This is what Hawaii does to kids I guess.

Its been 2 weeks since we got here and its about time we had American beef hamburger.  We might head dow to Kahala Mall tomorrow and eat at The Counter.
