千葉野菜 - Fresh Vegetables from Chiba

今日は千葉で農業を始めた（最近水田で蓮根作りを始めた）姉夫婦と姪っ子がご近所の農家の方が作った野菜を持って上京した。夜帰って夕飯にトマトを食べてみると美味しい！！スーパーのトマトとは全然違って、味がしっかりある。これだったら洸希もすっぱい顔しないかも。もっと買えばよかったな・・・と悔やむ。

知らなかったのだけど、かぼちゃは置いておくと甘みが増すらしく、農家の人は採ってすぐは食べないらしい。私も少し置いておこっと。かぼちゃは洸希の大好物。喜ぶかな～

義兄の実家が東京のため、たまに東京に戻る時、野菜を持ってくる。下記は今回のお野菜の値段。との時により持ってくる野菜の種類も値段も違うので、興味ある方はご連絡ください（midori_frog@hotmail.com)。

トマト（大）１個１００円

My sister, brother in law and my niece came down to Tokyo with fresh vegetables grown in Chiba today.  I had a tomato tonight and how good it tasted!  Very different from ones bought off grocery stores, they taste like nothing compared to the one I had tonight.

My sister, brother in law and niece moved to Chiba few years ago.  My brother in law went to an agriculture school for a year and became a farmer.  He found a land and started growing a kind of root vegetable, lotus, which we Japanese eat.  Now it is growing, he comes down to sell veges other farmers grow time to time.

My sister told me she helps out her husband with farming and that she has become stronger which is a good thing because she can be weak sometimes.

了太郎くん - Ryotaro

今日は兵庫から里帰りしているikuyoのお家にお邪魔しに、洸希を連れて豊洲まで行ってきた。家を少し早めに出たので、あわよくば昼寝している間にゆっくりお喋りと思い、ららぽーとに寄って洸希を散歩させたのに帰りがけまで寝なかった。ま、帰りの電車ずっと寝ててくれたからよかったけど。

了太郎くんは前回会った時は生まれたてのホヤホヤだったのに、すっかり洸希より背も高くなり、しっかりベビーになっていた。おっとりさんで、おとなしく一人で遊べるのには関心してしまった。本当、赤ちゃんて一人一人全然違うのね。

都会はどこへも電車で出かけられて便利だけど、意外に子連れだと帰りがラッシュにあたらないよう気をつけなければいけないから、案外移動がすべて車の都下や田舎のほうが子連れにはいいんだろうな、とふと思った。本当はあと２時間くらい主婦トークしたかったからかなり心残り・・・

Today Kohki and I took trains to go see Ryotaro who is 2 months younger than Kohki and his mother Ikuyo in Toyosu. It was good to see them since they now live in west part of Japan (Hyogo) and I don't get to see them that often. Toyosu is an urban seaside man-made town and it's got several office buildings, condominiums (high rise), and a big shopping mall. As the town is still new, they are constantly building new buildings.

Ryotaro is 2 months younger than Kohki but he is few centimeters taller.  He is very quiet and can play by himself where Kohki is rascal and is running around all the time needing my attention.  It is really amazing how each baby is different.

Common thing is that all babies are beautiful and adorable.

餃子 - pot stickers

今日は友達が昼遊びに来て一緒にありあわせで昼食をし、夕方まで雑談。洸希は人が大好きなので大興奮で、朝公園でたくさん遊んだくせに昼寝を４０分くらいしかしなかったせいか、夜お風呂の後、ソファに珍しく座ったと思ったら次の瞬間ウトウト。そんなこと今までないから、よっぽど疲れてたんだろうな・・・
今日の夕飯は私の好物の餃子を朝のうちに作ったので、一緒に洸希にもミニミニ餃子を作っておいて夜食べさせた。皮のカリカリ部分が噛み切れず出すかと構えていたら、そのままモリモリ食べた。洸希は好き嫌いせず何でもモリモリ食べるし、最近はもうほぼ大人と同じものを食べられるようになったからかなり食事の支度も楽になってきた。誕生日越えてからはフォローアップミルクも卒業して今は牛乳を１日２００ｍｌ飲む。最近はフォークやスプーンもちょっとずつ使う意欲を見せ始め（まだなかなか上手く刺せないしすくえないけど）、コップを自分で持って飲めるようになってきた。言葉も出始めていて、最近は指を指して「あ」や「こ」を連発、カーテンに隠れて「いないないばあ」も言うようになった。たまに覚醒したかのようにはっきりと言葉を発したりして驚かされる。今日は私を指して、「おっかあ」といった（と思う・・・）。体も発育も目覚しく、最近はとにかく朝から晩まで歩くか、走り回っている、家の中でも。高いところの上り下りも難なくできるようになった。たくさん歩くからたくさん食べても太らない様子。
この間１歳検診に小児科にいったら、
身長７２．１ｃｍ、体重８．９ｋｇ
いたって健康。
かなり記録的になってしまったけど、ちょっとずつ書いておかないと忘れちゃうかな、と思い書いてみました。

I cooked pot stickers for Kohki tonight, my favorite dish and for Kohki's first time today.  Because pot stickers are crispy on bottom and moist on top, I suspected Kohki might spit after chewing on a crispy side for a while, but to my surprise he ate all pot stickers without any problem.  He seemed to love them. 
Though he now only weighs 8.9kg (72.1cm tall) he eats a lot.  He really enjoys any kind of food and it has become fun to cook him meals.  He is starting to eat more and more regular food like us parents and this has made my life alot easier.  He no longer drinks formula milk but drinks regular cow milk, 200 ml each day.
He holds his own fork and spoon at meals though he can't use them that well yet, time to time he picks up a piece of food like carrot or banana with his fork.  He can hold and drink from his own mug.
He babbles alot now and lately he points his index finger at things all the time and says "ah" and "koh".  Sometimes he suddenly spits out clear words like "Rappa" (trumpet in Japanese, from his book) and "okka " (short version of mom in Japanese, I suppose)" and surprise me.  He also learned to do peek-a-boo with curtain, he actually say "e-nai e-nai bah" (peek-a-boo in Japanese) when he does it.
He walks and runs all day and he is learning to climb on everything.  He doesn't care for TV but just walking and running, he walks around the house all day if it rains.
All these things tell me that he has grown so big and mature.  Soon he will be riding his new bike!

ほっと一息 - done!

ここ数週間じわじわとやってきた翻訳の仕事がやっと終わった。

１歳の子供を抱えての在宅ワークはかなり厳しいということが分かった。平日は昼寝の間と夜寝てから、週末は実家でダンナと両親に子供の世話を頼んでまとめてやれるところまでやる、となると休みがほとんどなく疲れも溜まった。助かったのは近くに大きな公園があったこと。毎朝天気が許せば連れ出して思いっきり遊ばせると大体３時間は寝てくれたので、この間になんとか毎日できた。あとはもちろん両親とダンナが見ていてくれる週末、ボーナス。
今回の仕事は２種類で、１つはペーパーバックの翻訳段階前の出版社に提出する書類（シノプシスというらしい）、もう１つは音楽CDの歌詞の対訳。後者はかなり楽しんで短時間で出来たものの、前者はかなり大変。今後どの程度頻繁に話が来るかは謎だけど、何はともあれ語学を生業するということは並大抵のことではないのです。でも、仕事ってやってる時大変だけど、やっぱり終わると達成感あるな、と実感。今後どんな形になるかは分からないけど、やっぱり何らかの形で仕事はしたいなと思った。
あとは、素人裸足だからしょうがないけれど、今後もう少し報酬が上がるとモチベーションも変わってくる気が・・・
明日は久々に時間に捉われず心置きなく洸希を公園に連れて行ったり、一緒に昼寝したりしようと思いまーす！

Past few weeks I have been continuously working on a translation project for writing up a synopsis for a book called "Mind in the Making" which is about child development.  The book itself is a great book and I enjoyed reading since it hits right my spot.  Reading and understanding in English is one thing where translating it into Japanese that make sense is quite another though I think I am not too bad at it.  Plus, being time starved with 1 year old running around, it was mentally presurring as well.  On weekdays, I'd do some work when Kohki takes a nap and after he goes to sleep (of course there's house chores too) and on weekends, I'd take Kohki and stay over Toru's parents and have their help looking after Kohki and snatch few hours in a block to concentrate and do more work.  
Since this was my first shot with the translation career, I don't know if my freelance translation work is gonna take off but if it does, all stakes need to be considered.
For now I will take a break from everything and just relax and enjoy the time-pressure-free time with Kohki at park and take a nap with him in the afternoon.
Not to forget, gratitude goes out for Toru and his parents for all their support.

良い季節 - good season in Tokyo

昨日から１泊で実家にいってきた。相変わらず深緑が眩しい山間の家、リラックスした。家事からしばし解き放たれ、スポットで入った翻訳の仕事も大分進んだ。
最近天気が良いので毎朝２時間くらい近くの公園に遊びに行く。朝遊ぶ→１１時過ぎに戻る→お昼→昼寝→遊び→夕飯→就寝の習慣がつき、かなり良い感じ。昼寝が長いと２時間半になるのがかなりボーナス♪
公園、友達に「え、公園デビューしたの？」といわれて初めて気づいた、してた。でも、うちの近くはグループで来てる人も少ないし、デビューってほどでもなかった気がする。大変なところは大変らしいからね、ラッキー。
５月は良い季節、もうすぐ梅雨に入ると家で過ごす時間が増えそうで、出るの大好きな私はちょっと憂鬱。
今日の写真は仲良し＆同じ誕生日（洸希より数分早く産まれた）のLeaちゃんのママが撮ってくれた一枚。２人とも良い表情。
May is one of my favorite months here in Tokyo, less rain (Japan has rain all thru year) , less humidity, much sun, a beautiful season.  Lately, I take Kohki to nearby park in the morning and he plays for a couple of hours and come back and have lunch, then a nap, 2.5 hours if lucky.  This has become schedule for both of us and I love it.  He loves playing in a park with other kids, walking with me.  I wish there were no rain season in Japan.  With rain, we are forced to stay inside and is no fun.  I soon need to start thinking about fun things to do when it rains.
Tonight's picture is with Lea, Kohki's buddy (she's a girl but she's pretty rascal too) who was born just few minutes before Kohki in a next room. They have been together since the birth (well, almost), pretty cool.

お誕生日と端午の節句 - Brithday and Celebration

ＧＷは盛りだくさんでした。
１日は洸希の１歳の誕生日、おじいちゃん、おばあちゃん、ひいおばあちゃんが集まった。一生餅を背負わせ、端午の節句も近いということで飾っておいた兜もかぶせ、ご馳走とケーキでお祝い。お洋服上下と自転車のプレゼントをそれぞれのおじいちゃん・おばあちゃんからもらった。夕方からｔｏｒｕの実家に移動し、２日は子供の国に連れて行き、芝生をはだしで歩いたり、動物と触れ合ったりした。３日はゆっくりして、４日は両親に洸希をお願いして鎌倉の海で波乗り。夕方戻ってみると特に泣いたりせずご機嫌に遊び、昼寝もした様子。洸希も成長したな～。昨日は端午の節句ということで柏餅をたべ、夜は菖蒲湯に入れた。

ｔｏｒｕ最後のＧＷ日の今日はまたお台場にいってきた。今回はびしょぬれになるくらい水と戯れて今はぐっすり。楽しいＧＷを満喫しました！

Golden Week vacation in Japan is now over.  We had so much fun during the break. 
May 1st was Kohki's one year old birthday.  We celebrated his brithday along with his first osekku, boy's celebration.  Next day we took him to Kodomono Kuni where he ran around bare foot on grass and palyed with animals.  Yesterday was Children's Day and so we ate kashiwa-mochi and at night gave Kohki a shobu yu bath (reference:http://japanese-culture.info/keyword/NationalHolidays/kodomo.html).
Such a good holiday.

初乗り - feeling stoked

今シーズン初サーフィンいってきた！場所は鎌倉、坂の下付近。風はなく、波はヒザ、セットももくらい。やっぱり海最高、波乗り最高！海の近くに住んでもっと海に入れたらいいのになー、と何万回目かに思ってしまった。いつの日か洸希と一緒に波に乗る日を夢見て。

First surfing of the season, had good time, small surf but no wind and nice weather, a perfect stoke moment.  I realized I needed this for sometime.  Wishing that I lived by the beach and could surf more often.  Dreaming about the day I surf with Kohki.  Cheers!
