五箇山、Gokayama Village

先週金曜日から今週月曜日まで旦那の両親と共に、
義父の実家石川県に行って来た。

７時間強と息子にとっては初のロングドライブだった。

何年ぶりかに顔を会わせる旦那の祖母も元気そうで
嬉しそうにしていたので行って本当に良かった。

石川には千里浜という車で走れる海岸があるが、
あちら側は日本海、いつも私たちが見慣れている
太平洋とまた違って、
まっすぐ伸びる千里浜の海岸線と白っぽく細かい砂は
なんだかロサンゼルスの海岸を彷彿とさせた。

海岸にカモメが沢山いたり、花崗岩らしきものが沢山
落ちているのも湘南や千葉と違ってなかなかよかった。

なにはともあれ海はどこにいっても本当に良い。

滞在は祖母も呼んで、義父の同級生が運営する民宿に
泊まったが、女将さんは親切、ご飯も美味しく、
海も近いし、次は夏に海水浴でいきたい。

最後の一日はお隣の富山県、氷見の漁港でやっている
「きときと市」に寄り、
夕方から五箇山に行って一泊した。
五箇山は深い山間にあって空気はピンと張りつめ、
静まり返って、まるで山の神から見下ろされているようなザ日本の田舎、という所だった。

なにはともあれ日本海は本当に魚介類が美味しい！

日本もたーくさん良い所があるのですね〜
そのうち四国とか九州も行ってみたい気もするなあ。

We left for Toru's father's hometown, Ishikawa prefecture which is on
the other side of Japan (Japan Sea side), around 8 AM last Friday.
After making several stops at highway rest areas, we got to Ishikawa
around 5:30 PM or so.

We went to Toru's father's house first to say hi to grandma, uncle and
aunt.  We had tea together and left for a small minshuku (sort of like B&B)
which Toru's father's friend runs.
Because Ishikawa is facing ocean, it is blessed with many fresh tasteful
seafood. Every seafood we ate in Ishikawa was amazing, cannot beat that
at any restaurant in Tokyo.

Ishikawa also is famous for a beach called Chirihama (meaning thousand beaches)
which is the only beach you can drive into in Japan.
Sucha beautiful scenery, and different from the beach we are used to seeing
(Pacific Ocean, Tokyo on the other side of Japan island).

On our way back on Sunday, we stopped by and stayed over in Gokayama for one night.
A serene and very spiritual village surrounded by mountains.
Houses are kept in a same style from thousands of years ago, a world heritage.

Ommmmmm.
